Privacy Policy

Last updated: 11 January 2022

This Privacy Policy explains how Caitlin Kidd (“I”, “me”, “my”) collects, uses, and shares information when you visit https://caitlinkidd.com (the “Site”).

The Site is a personal editorial blog. It publishes writing about dating, sex, apps, relationships, and related subjects. It is intended for adults aged 18 or over.

I operate the Site from Hertfordshire, United Kingdom.

If you do not agree with this policy, do not use the Site.

1. Who is responsible

The Site is run by Caitlin Kidd.

For privacy questions, contact: cat@caitlinkidd.com

2. What this Site does not do right now

At the time this policy was written, the Site:

  • does not require you to create an account
  • does not run a shop or take payments
  • does not have a public comments section
  • does not show a newsletter signup
  • does not ask you to submit sexual history, photos, or health information

Reading an article about sex is not the same as giving me information about your sex life. I do not collect that from you just because you opened a page.

3. Information I may collect

Information you choose to give me

If you email me at cat@caitlinkidd.com, use a contact form I add later, leave a comment, or join a mailing list, I will receive whatever you send. That can include your name, email address, and the content of the message.

Do not send me other people’s private information. Do not send illegal content.

Information collected automatically

When you visit the Site, the hosting provider and WordPress may record:

  • IP address
  • browser type and version
  • device type
  • pages viewed, date and time
  • referring site
  • general location derived from IP (city or country level, not a street address)

This is ordinary website log data. I use it to keep the Site working, fix errors, and understand which posts are read.

Cookies and similar technology

The Site is built on WordPress. WordPress and the hosting setup may set cookies that are needed for the Site to function, for example:

  • to remember cookie or consent choices
  • to keep an admin session if I am logged in
  • to protect the Site from spam or abuse

If I later add analytics, advertising, embeds, or a newsletter tool, those services may set their own cookies. Where the law requires it, I will ask before using non-essential cookies.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser. Some parts of the Site may then work less well.

4. How I use information

I use information to:

  • operate and secure the Site
  • publish and improve writing
  • see which pages are visited
  • reply if you contact me
  • send a newsletter if you ask for one
  • comply with UK law
  • defend the Site against spam, abuse, or legal claims

The legal bases I rely on under UK GDPR are:

  • legitimate interests, to run, secure, and understand a public blog
  • consent, where I ask for it, for example non-essential cookies or a mailing list
  • legal obligation, where the law requires me to keep or disclose information

I do not sell your personal information.

5. Adult content

The Site discusses sex in plain language. That is editorial content.

I do not use the Site to collect intimate data from readers. I do not need your name, dating history, or sexual preferences in order for you to read a post.

If you choose to write to me about a personal situation, treat that email as something you are volunteering. I will only use it to reply, unless I have to keep it for legal or security reasons.

The Site is not directed at children. I do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has sent me personal information, email cat@caitlinkidd.com and I will delete it where I can.

6. When I share information

I may share information with:

  • the company that hosts the Site and related infrastructure
  • email or form providers, if I add contact or newsletter tools
  • analytics providers, if I add them
  • professional advisers, if needed
  • authorities, if UK law requires it
  • a buyer, if the Site is ever transferred

These people only get what they need to do their job.

If I embed content from other sites (for example a video or a social post), those sites may collect data under their own policies. That collection is not controlled by me.

Some providers may be based outside the United Kingdom. Where that happens, I will only use them in a way that is permitted under UK data protection law.

7. How long I keep information

  • Server logs: usually a short period set by the host, unless I need them longer for security
  • Emails and contact messages: as long as needed to deal with the request, then deleted or stored only if I have a good reason to keep them
  • Newsletter details: until you unsubscribe
  • Comments, if enabled: until you ask for removal or I take the comment down

8. Your rights

Under UK GDPR, you may be able to:

  • ask what personal information I hold about you
  • ask for a copy
  • ask me to correct it
  • ask me to delete it
  • object to or restrict certain uses
  • withdraw consent where I relied on consent
  • ask for data portability, where that right applies

To use these rights, email cat@caitlinkidd.com. I may need to confirm it is you before I act.

You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK supervisory authority for data protection:

Information Commissioner’s Office
Wycliffe House

United Kingdom

Helpline: 0303 123 1113

If you are outside the UK, you may also have rights under the law where you live. If you are in California, you can ask me not to “sell” or “share” personal information as those words are used in California law. I do not sell personal information.

9. Security

I take reasonable steps to protect the Site. No website is perfectly secure. Do not send highly sensitive information to a public blog contact address unless you accept that risk.

10. Links

The Site may link to other websites. Their privacy practices are their own. Read their policies before you give them anything.

11. International visitors

The Site can be read from other countries. If you visit from outside the United Kingdom, your information may be processed in the UK and in the country where the Site is hosted. I only do that as needed to run the Site.

12. Changes

I may update this policy when the Site changes. The new version will be posted here with a new “Last updated” date. If the change is significant, I will make that obvious on the Site where I can.
