  • Take The Top And Stay

Riding has a reputation it has not earned.

On screens it is athletic. Hair doing something cinematic. Hips bouncing like the point of the exercise is height. A face arranged for the camera that is not there. It looks like confidence. It often feels like a workout with an audience of one, and the audience is not even watching the useful part.

That is the quiet joke of the position. It is sold as control. Power. The girl on top thing, as if gravity were a personality. Then people get up there and start performing the idea of it instead of using it. The night turns into a show. The body gets busy. The bit that actually works gets ignored because it does not look expensive enough.

Take the top and stay. That is the whole trick, and it is less glamorous than the brochure.

Staying is the part nobody films. Small movements. A grind more than a bounce. Pressure instead of travel. The sort of motion that would look almost boring if someone paused the scene and asked what was happening. Good. Boring is often where it starts working.

There is a reason the bounce fails so often. It feels energetic, so it feels like effort, so it feels like it must be doing something. Up and down can look committed. It also keeps taking the contact away from the place that wanted it. The body leaves, comes back, leaves again. Whatever was building has to start over every other second. It is the sexual equivalent of putting the kettle on and then wandering off to find a mug and then remembering the kettle and then checking a message. Motion without arrival.

The grind is uglier on paper and better in practice. Hips forward. Weight down. A slow rub more than a ride. The movement lives in inches, not in airtime. Clitoral contact actually has a chance to exist for longer than a cameo. That is not a slogan. That is just how a lot of bodies finish, if they finish at all with someone else in the room.

People get shy about saying that because it sounds unromantic. It is not unromantic. It is mechanical in the same way a key in a lock is mechanical. Nobody writes poems about the exact angle of a key and still everyone wants the door open.

The performance problem starts earlier than the bed. Women are trained, relentlessly, to consider how they look while they are meant to be busy feeling something. Even in the dark. Even when nobody asked for a show. The body gets treated like a poster of itself. Chest up, stomach in, hair over one shoulder, the bounce that photographs well in the imagination. Meanwhile the actual sensation is somewhere off to the side, waiting to be invited.

It is funny until the pattern becomes obvious. The more someone tries to look like they are good at it, the less they stay with the thing that would make them good at it. Looking good can wait. That sentence is not an insult to vanity. Vanity is allowed. It is just a terrible project manager during sex.

There is also the thigh question, which deserves a moment of honesty. Hovering up there, trying to look light and impressive, is exhausting. Quads start negotiating an exit. The rhythm goes ragged because the muscles have begun filing a complaint. Then the whole thing gets abandoned after four minutes and everyone pretends the position is overrated. It is not overrated. The unpaid internship of holding yourself in the air like a chandelier is overrated.

Sit down. Properly. Use his body as furniture that happens to be attached to a person. Weight is not a failure of elegance. Weight is how pressure happens. Pressure is often the difference between nearly and yes.

A lot of men do not help, and they should be told that without a speech attached. They get underneath and treat it like their turn to prove something. They thrust up as if the assignment were height. They grab the hips and start directing a bounce they saw somewhere else. They want splash. They want evidence. They want the visual of being ridden like a statement.

Ask him to be still. Not forever. Long enough for a rhythm to exist. Hands on the waist or the arse are fine. Hands that keep trying to turn the whole thing into a trampoline are not. If he needs to move, small is the word again. He can meet the grind. He does not need to audition for a different film.

This is the serious part, and it is worth saying without a joke first. A lot of sex fails because the person who is meant to be having it is busy managing an image of themselves having it. That is not just a riding problem. Riding just makes it obvious. You can see the effort. You can feel the gap between the show and the sensation. The orgasm gap is not only about selfish partners and bad maps. It is also about women leaving their own bodies to go and stand in the corner as the director.

    Stay in the body.

That sounds like a line from a class nobody asked to attend. It is still the job. Notice what the grind is doing. If a tiny circle works, keep the tiny circle. If leaning forward puts the right pressure on, lean forward and do not correct the posture because it feels inelegant. If going still for a few seconds with him all the way in is the thing that makes the heat gather, then go still. Stillness is a movement. It just does not look like one.

There is humour in how offended people get by that advice. They want a menu. They want seven variations and a signature move. They want to be praised for creativity. Creativity is lovely on a Saturday when nobody is close. Creativity is vandalism when a body has finally found the one stupid little motion that was working.

Do not migrate. That is the other half of stay. Find the spot and treat it like a parking space in this economy. You do not find one and then decide to see what the next street has to offer. You stay put and let the meter run.

Breath helps more than the soundtrack. The porn noise is optional and often a liar. A real exhale is better. If talking happens, keep it short. There. Like that. Do not move. Those are complete instructions. They are also hotter than a paragraph. Men, for all the mythology about not listening, will often follow a simple order if it arrives while they are already lucky.

The first minute on top is usually the worst, which is why people panic and start bouncing. It feels awkward. Knees need a place. The angle is wrong, then less wrong, then almost. There is a temptation to make it look decided before it is decided. Resist that. Adjust like a person moving a chair two inches closer to a table. Practical. Unsexy in theory. Extremely useful.

A pillow under him can change the whole plot. So can his knees bent. So can leaning on his chest instead of performing an independent spine. These are not tips from a laminated manual. They are the boring logistics that decide whether the night is good. The glamorous version of sex pretends logistics are unromantic. Logistics are how bodies meet.

If a toy is in the room, this is a decent time for it. Not as a verdict on anyone. As extra pressure in a position that can already offer some. A small vibrator between bodies while the grind stays small can turn a nearly into a fact. Bring it out before anyone is frustrated. Rescue energy is a mood killer. Early and casual is just part of the furniture.

Morning versions of this are even less of a show, which is why they sometimes work better. Nobody has the production budget at seven. Hair is doing something unfortunate. Breath is not cinematic. The movement gets honest because nobody has the strength to bounce for an audience. There is a lesson in that. Tired bodies often have better taste.

None of this means riding has to be grim or worthy. It can still be filthy. Weight and a slow grind are filthy. Watching his face change because the same small thing is being done to him over and over is filthy. Letting him feel how still you can be while he is trying not to take over is filthy. Control is not hair in the air. Control is not leaving.

There will be men who look faintly disappointed that the scene does not match the one in their head. Let them be disappointed for a second. Then keep doing the thing that feels good. If he likes the position because it looks a certain way, he can have the view. He cannot have the choreography if the choreography is useless. That is not cruelty. That is editing.

A person is allowed to want to look good. Wear the thing. Keep the light they like. Arch when it pleases them. Vanity can sit in the room. It just does not get to drive once the heat is actually on. When it is working, the face will take care of itself. Effortful pretty is rarely as convincing as accidental pretty, and accidental pretty arrives when someone has stopped managing the picture.

If it is not working, get off. That is allowed too. Loyalty to a position is how people waste a night out of stubbornness. Try the grind. Give it a proper minute, not a polite sample. If the map is wrong that day, change jobs. Sex is not a contract with one pose.

When it is working, though, resist the upgrade instinct. The brain loves to interfere at the worst time. It says faster. It says bigger. It says surely more movement would be more generous. More is how the thread gets dropped. Stay with the small thing until it becomes the only thing in the room.

That is the balance. The joke is the bounce, the show, the unpaid thigh labour, the cinematic hair, the man underneath directing a scene he is not even in. The serious bit is that a lot of women have been taught to offer a picture of pleasure instead of organising the conditions for it. Taking the top was supposed to fix that. It only fixes it if the person on top uses the job for sensation rather than display.

Sit down. Find the grind. Keep it almost boring on purpose.

Looking good can wait. The body cannot.

  • Lube Is Not An Emergency

Lube gets treated like a fire extinguisher. Fine to own. Embarrassing to need. Best kept under the sink until something is already going wrong.

That is a stupid way to run a sex life.

Dry and hopeful is not a personality. It is a gamble. Sometimes the gamble pays off and the body cooperates and everyone pretends friction was part of the charm. Sometimes it does not, and the night turns into a polite endurance test with better lighting. A bit of slip turns average into easy. Pride is a terrible reason to stay uncomfortable.

The myth is that wet means ready and ready means good and good means nobody should require assistance from a bottle. Bodies did not get that memo. Wanting and being comfortably wet are related, not identical. Stress dries people out. Condoms drink moisture like they are being paid for it. Certain weeks of the month are stingier than others. Antihistamines, the pill, a brutal day at work, a room that is too cold, a man who went from zero to thrusting because the mood arrived in his trousers first. None of that is a moral failing. All of it is ordinary.

Still, the bottle stays in a drawer like contraband.

There is a particular scramble that gives the whole attitude away. Things are in motion. It is not quite working. Someone starts doing that careful face, the one that is trying not to look like pain. Then there is the rummage. The stretch for a bag. The tiny travel sachet that has been waiting in a makeup pouch since a festival two summers ago. The cap that will not come off because it has fused shut from being ignored. By the time the stuff is actually on a hand, the night has changed temperature. Not ruined, necessarily. Just interrupted by the performance of an emergency.

Put it out like it belongs there and that scene never has to happen.

On the bedside table is not an accusation. It is hospitality. Same logic as water, same logic as a lamp that actually works, same logic as not making someone hunt for a towel with one sock on. Sex is already a slightly ridiculous arrangement of limbs and timing. Adding a pump bottle does not make it medical. Hiding it does.

Men take it personally more often than they admit. Not all of them. Enough of them. The bottle appears and a look crosses the face, quick, offended, as if lubrication is a review of his technique posted in real time. That look is not sexy. It is insecure with its shirt off. A person can want him and still want the slide to be easy. Those two facts can sit on the same mattress without fighting.

If he sulks about lube, the problem is not the lube.

The serious bit, the bit people skip because it sounds like a leaflet, is that friction is not automatically passion. Uncomfortable sex trains the body to flinch. A flinch becomes a habit. A habit becomes “maybe not tonight” dressed up as a mystery. Plenty of so called low desire is just a nervous system that remembers being scraped and would rather watch telly. Comfort is not the enemy of heat. Comfort is how heat lasts long enough to go somewhere interesting.

There is also the unglamorous health note, and it belongs here without turning the piece into a clinic. Too much drag can mean soreness the next day, little tears nobody signed up for, condoms more likely to protest. None of that is dramatic until it is. Then it is baths and cancelled plans and a week of walking like someone who made a bad decision on purpose. A pump of the boring stuff is cheaper than that plot.

Water based is the easy house wine of the category. Plays nicely with most condoms. Fine for hands, mouths if the formula is not foul, toys that are fussy about silicone. It can dry a bit and need a top up, which is not a tragedy. Topping up is part of staying in the room.

Silicone lasts longer and feels slicker, which is useful when the night is not in a rush. Keep it away from silicone toys unless the packaging says otherwise, because some combinations go sticky and sad. Hybrid sits in the middle and behaves itself for a lot of people.

Scented, flavoured, tingling, the ones that promise a firework in a tube, those are optional entertainment. They are not the foundation. If the goal is comfort, start plain. The bedroom does not need a dessert menu on night one of owning a bottle.

Warm it in the hands. That single habit stops the whole thing feeling like a science experiment. Cold gel on hot skin is how you get a flinch you did not want. A palm, a second, then on the body, on him, on the condom, wherever the drag is. It does not require a speech. It does not require lighting a candle to honour the moment. It is closer to putting butter in a pan because you would like the eggs to move.

The mood survives honesty better than it survives grit. “Hang on” is a complete sentence. So is reaching over and doing it without the TED talk. Confidence sells it. Furtiveness makes it weird. People notice the energy around an object more than the object. Put the bottle down like it has always lived there and the room believes you.

There is a class of advice that says wait until you are “wet enough” as if arousal were a tap a person could simply open wider through willpower. Sometimes the body is interested and still not generous. Sometimes the mind is ahead of the plumbing. Sometimes everything was fine ten minutes ago and then a condom went on and the moisture clocked off. Waiting it out while pretending nothing is wrong is how sex becomes an acting job. Acting is tiring. Tiring is the opposite of filthy.

A high sex drive does not cancel any of this. If anything it makes the logistics louder. Wanting more often means meeting the same small problems more often. Dry patches. Rubbing that starts fine and turns sharp. The ambitious position that looked good in theory and felt like carpet burn in practice. Lube is how a greedy streak stays comfortable enough to be greedy. That is not unromantic. That is operational.

The humour writes itself once the embarrassment is dropped. The couple who own four types of wine and one fossilised sachet. The man who can talk an excellent game and still look betrayed by a pump. The drawer archaeology of packets from hotels, hen dos, a well meaning friend, all of them slightly sticky and none of them within reach when it matters. The performance of being so naturally ready that products would insult the vibe. Nature is not a brand strategy. Nature is inconsistent. That is why kitchens have oil.

There is also the quieter pride, the female version, the one that does not get mocked as often in the same way. The idea that needing help means the body failed a test. That a properly sexual person would just produce the conditions like a magician. That dryness is something to hide rather than solve. It is an old script. It still works on people who would laugh at it in daylight. Night-time has a way of making intelligent women act like the bottle is evidence.

It is not evidence. It is kit.

Think of it the way a decent kitchen thinks of salt. Not an emergency. Not a confession. A thing that makes the rest of the ingredients behave. Nobody sits down to dinner and apologises for seasoning. The bedroom has been strangely slower to catch up, possibly because sex still gets treated as a natural wonder that should succeed on vibes and bone structure. Vibe is not lubrication. Bone structure is definitely not.

Putting it out changes the tone of the whole night before anything has even happened. It says comfort is allowed. It says nobody is going to grind through a bad texture for etiquette. It says the point is feeling good, not proving that the body can manage without assistance. That is a sexier sentence than it looks on paper. Ease is attractive. Strain, after a while, is just strain.

There will still be nights when it is not needed. Brilliant. Leave it there anyway. The nights it is needed will not send anyone on a scavenger hunt through a handbag while trying to keep a straight face. The bottle can sit unused like a civilised adult object. Unused is not wasted. Unused is prepared.

A person can make it part of the touching rather than a pause in the touching. Hands already moving. Mouth already busy. A reach, a click, a slicker version of the same moment. Done properly it does not break anything. It upgrades the material. The difference between dragging and gliding is the difference between concentrating on not wincing and actually being in the room.

That is the whole argument, stretched out because people keep needing it repeated. Lube is not what you grab when the night has already gone a bit wrong. It is what you put out so the night has a better chance of staying right. Dry and hopeful can retire. It had a long run. It was never charming.

Comfort first. Heat after. The order matters more than the branding on the cap.

  • Tell Him When To Stay

It is usually going well right before he ruins it.

Not on purpose. That is the joke and the problem. He finds the exact pressure, the exact angle, the exact boring little rhythm that is actually doing something, and then his brain treats that information like a draft. Time to improve it. Time to add a variation. Time to show range.

    So he changes.

Faster. Slower. Higher. A new hip situation that looked good in his head. A hand that was useful wanders off to be creative. The thing that was building falls over, politely, like a tray someone jogged.

A person can feel it leave the body in real time. The climb was there. Then it was a memory of a climb. Then everyone is working again from a lower floor and pretending this is still the same night.

    “There” is a complete sentence.

    So is “do not move.”

Neither of those is an essay. Neither of them needs a smile to make it legal. They are directions, the same way “left a bit” is a direction when someone is trying to get a sofa through a door. Nobody calls that nagging. The sofa does not have an ego. Men do, which is why this gets treated like a diplomatic incident instead of basic navigation.

The myth is that good sex should be telepathic. If it is working, he should know. If it stops working, he should feel it and correct course like a sensitive instrument. That is a lovely idea. It also explains a lot of average nights. Bodies are not instruments. They are wet, distracted, proud, and easily bored. His included. Yours especially, if the thing that was landing just got remixed for no reason other than restlessness.

He changes because variety has been sold to him as skill. Doing one thing well looks too simple. Doing five things in a row looks like effort. Effort looks like generosity. So he keeps offering new versions of a moment that did not ask to be redesigned. It is invention at the exact point invention is the enemy.

There is a serious version of this and it is not small. A lot of people spend years nearly getting there and then watching the nearly get up and leave. Not because the body is mysterious. Because the useful minute keeps getting interrupted. The orgasm gap is not only anatomy and porn and rushed foreplay. It is also this. The inability to stay. The refusal to treat “this is working” as the most important sentence in the room.

Silence makes that worse. If nothing is said, he has only his own feedback loop. He feels good. He is close, or getting there, or at least enjoying the motion. His body is giving him a green light, so he assumes the building is still on fire in the right way. It may not be. It may have been, thirty seconds ago, before he decided to demonstrate a new idea.

Saying something is not a personality transplant. It is not becoming bossy for sport. It is refusing to participate in a night that keeps missing on purpose.

The hesitation is understandable. A lot of women have been trained to protect the temperature of a man’s confidence like it is a souffle. Tell him what to do and he might wilt. Tell him what not to do and he might take it as a review. Tell him “there” and he might hear “everywhere else was rubbish.” So the sentence stays in the mouth. The body tries to catch up with a moving target. Later there is the familiar little lie, or the familiar little shrug, or the decision to finish the job quietly after he has rolled over and become furniture.

That is not manners. That is unpaid labour with better lighting.

Direction can be filthy and still be clear. It does not have to sound like a risk assessment. It does not have to sound like a TED Talk on needs. The best versions are short enough to survive heat.

    There.

    Stay.

    Do not move.

Like that. Harder. Slower. Right there. Keep doing that.

If the voice can manage a bit of dirt, even better. He is less likely to hear criticism when the sentence still sounds like want. “Do not you dare stop” does a different job to “that was better before.” Both can be true. One keeps the room hot. One turns the room into a performance review.

Tone matters because men are not only bad at staying. They are also good at hearing a threat where there is only a map. Say it like a complaint and the ego arrives in a high vis jacket. Say it like information and there is a decent chance the hips listen. The body often wants to get it right. The pride is what makes it deaf.

Timing matters more than poetry. The sentence has to land while the thing is still working, not after it has gone. Waiting until the moment has already died, then announcing that it was nice a minute ago, is how people end up in a post mortem when they could have had an ending. Catch it live. Interrupt the remix before the remix becomes the new plan.

A hand helps. Words are one map. A palm on his back, a grip on his hip, a heel keeping him where he is, that is another. Some men hear better through skin than through English. Pinning the useful version in place is not a power game unless someone needs it to be. It is just refusing to let a good idea wander off.

There will be a man who takes instruction as an insult. He will get brisk, or sulky, or suddenly interested in proving he had a better plan. That is useful data. A person who cannot stay when staying is the request is telling you how he treats information that is not his idea. In bed that is frustrating. Outside of bed it is often the same habit in a nicer shirt.

There will be another man who looks almost relieved. He was guessing. He has been guessing the whole time. Guessing is tiring. A short sentence saves him from the creative project he thought he was supposed to be running. Those ones usually get better in one night, which is either romantic or damning, depending on how long the guessing was allowed to go on.

The logistics are unglamorous and they decide more than chemistry does. If the pace is right, keep the pace. If the pressure is right, do not upgrade it. If a mouth is in the correct postcode, it does not need to tour the rest of the country to prove enthusiasm. Consistency is not the enemy of heat. Consistency is how heat turns into an actual ending.

This is where the humour sits, because the alternative is despair and despair is boring. He really does look proud of the new angle. He really does think he has just invented a better staircase. He is concentrating like a man assembling furniture without the booklet. Meanwhile the booklet is right there, in English, in one syllable, and nobody wants to read it out because it might hurt the carpenter’s feelings.

    Say it anyway.

Practice the small ones first if the big ones feel theatrical. “A bit slower.” “Stay there a second.” “That. Exactly that.” The voice finds its register through use, not through waiting for confidence to arrive fully formed. Confidence, in this department, is often just repetition with less apology.

There is a softer truth under the joke. A lot of people do not know what their own “there” is until it happens, and then they doubt it because it arrived without fireworks. It can be a small, specific, almost ordinary pressure. It can look like nothing from the outside. That is why he misses it. That is why the sentence has to be said. The useful thing does not always announce itself with a soundtrack. Sometimes it just starts working, quietly, and then some well meaning idiot changes gear.

Serious bit, then. Asking him to stay is also asking him to pay attention past his own momentum. Male arousal can be a straight line. Build, build, finish. Anything that does not serve that line gets treated as optional. If what works for the other body is a loop, a grind, a boring repetition, it can feel to him like delay. It is not delay. It is a different clock. “Do not move” is how those clocks get a chance to meet.

If he cannot do that, the night will keep belonging to whoever finishes first. Usually him. Then the quiet. Then the ceiling. Then the familiar sense that everyone was in the same bed and only one person got the ending they were aiming for.

None of this requires a lecture about feminism in the sheets. It requires less magic thinking. People are not mind readers. Heat does not make them mind readers. If anything, heat makes them worse at it. Blood leaves the brain. Pride stays. The remix begins.

So give him the map while there is still a place worth staying.

Not a paragraph. Not a negotiation. Not a speech about how last Thursday was close but then he started doing that thing with his shoulder. One line, in the moment, with enough want in it that he understands this is not a correction of his character. It is the difference between almost and actually.

    There.

    Do not move.

If he stays, the night gets a chance to become what it was already trying to be. If he does not, at least the confusion has a name. He heard the instruction. He chose invention instead.

That is not chemistry failing. That is a man who cannot hold still when holding still is the whole job.

  • Stop Chasing The Perfect Angle

    The search starts innocently enough.

One position feels almost right. Then someone decides almost is not good enough. A knee gets lifted. A pillow gets shoved under the wrong bit of hip. Somebody suggests turning over, then sideways, then as if the bed were a puzzle and the prize is hidden under the next configuration. Five minutes later both of you are rearranging limbs like a couple who have bought a sofa online and refused to read the instructions.

It looks busy. It feels like progress. It is often just migration.

Bodies are not furniture catalogues. There is no legendary angle waiting in the next chapter if you can only get the lighting and the geometry to behave. Close enough, held still, done with the same pressure, is how most good nights actually happen. The hunt for the perfect pose is how a promising one gets talked to death.

This is the bit porn never shows for long. On a screen, people change position because the camera needs a new picture. In a bed, people change position because they are frightened of staying with something ordinary. Ordinary is where the nervous system catches up. Ordinary is where a rhythm can exist. Ordinary is also less photogenic, so it gets treated like a failure of imagination.

A lot of the gymnastics are panic in nicer clothing. He thinks if it has not happened yet, the answer must be a different shape. She thinks if she just tips her hips another inch the whole evening will click into place like a lock. Neither of you is wrong to want it to work. The mistake is believing work looks like travel.

Sex that works is usually boring to watch. Small movements. A pace that does not keep reinventing itself. Weight in the right place. A hand that stays where it was useful. The body likes repetition more than novelty once it has started climbing. Novelty is for the first ten minutes. After that, novelty is just interruption with better branding.

There is a serious mechanical reason for this and it is not very glamorous. Arousal in a lot of women is a build, not a switch. Pressure, friction, time. The clitoris does not care that the new angle would look great from the doorway. It cares that whatever was working did not suddenly vanish because someone had a vision. Change the whole map and the build drops a floor. Keep the same floor and adjust the window a centimetre and the build can continue.

Men do a version of this too, though they dress it up as stamina or creativity. He finds something that feels dangerous in the good way, then immediately abandons it for a position he saw once and has been saving as a personality trait. He will call it mixing it up. What he is mixing up is the plot. The body was following a sentence. He started a new paragraph in a different font.

It is funny until you notice how often the night was fine before the redesign. Laughter helps here because the alternative is getting grim about anatomy in a way that makes everyone self conscious. Two adults, fully capable of holding down jobs, suddenly treating a mattress like an escape room. One sock still on. A calf cramping. Someone saying wait, wait, if you just put that leg there. The romance of it. The dignity.

Then the serious part sits down beside the joke. Chasing angles is how people ignore pain. A twist that looks clever can feel like a pulled something. A position that is supposed to be deep can be simply too much. Endurance gets confused with enthusiasm. Saying this is a bit much gets delayed because the new shape was meant to be the solution, and abandoning the solution feels like admitting defeat. That is how a person ends up polite and sore at the same time.

Stay where it feels good. That sentence should be on the wall. Not where it looks advanced. Not where it matches a mental Pinterest board of what good sex is supposed to resemble. Where the body goes quieter in the useful way, the way it does when it has stopped performing and started paying attention.

Adjust a little. Do not migrate.

A little looks like this. Shift a hip, not a postcode. Change the height of a pillow, not the entire orientation of two skeletons. Slow the pace instead of swapping the pose. Add a hand rather than a new chapter. If something is close, the job is usually to protect it, not improve it to death.

This is advice with an edge because the alternative has been sold as spice. Variety has a decent reputation. In small doses it earns it. A different position later in the night, once someone has already come or the mood has changed, can be lovely. Variety as a constant refresh button is how nobody ever arrives. You cannot build a fire if you keep moving the wood.

There is also ego in the hunt. A perfect angle implies a perfect performer. If the night depends on finding the secret configuration, then failure belongs to geometry, not to listening. That is a comforting story. It is also how people avoid the plainer work. Ask what is good. Stay there. Do it again. Keep doing it while it is good. Stop when it is not. None of that photographs well. All of it works more often than the circus.

Try treating the first position that feels promising as a place, not a layover. Give it longer than your patience wants to. Most people bail early. They feel a flicker and assume the flicker means they are on the corridor to the real thing. Sometimes the flicker is the thing, and it only gets louder if nobody panics.

Use the hand you already know works. If a certain pressure from fingers or a toy or a hip is doing the useful job, do not throw it away because a new angle has entered the chat. Bring the useful thing with you if you must move. Or do not move. That is allowed. Staying is not laziness. Staying is technique.

Talk in short sentences. There. That. Do not go higher. A bit slower. These are not mood killers. These are traffic lights. The mood dies when somebody silently endures a new invention and hopes the next one will be kinder. Silence is how the furniture catalogue wins. A single word is how the body gets a vote.

If he is the one conducting the tour, you can stop the tour. Not with a lecture. With a stay. Hold his hip. Keep your own. Make the stillness obvious. A lot of men will keep changing scenes because they think motion equals skill. Show them that stillness can be the skill. If he takes that as criticism, that is information about him, not about your hips.

If you are the one doing the restless redesign, notice the habit. Wanting it to be better is not the same as making it better. There is a particular female version of this that looks like helpfulness. Just let me move this. Just let me try it like this. Just one more. Underneath it is often the fear that this is as good as it is going to get, so the night needs a plot twist. Sometimes this is as good as it is going to get, and that is already enough if you stop interrupting it.

Comfort is not the enemy of filthy. That is another myth that needs binning. People chase extreme angles because extreme looks like desire. Desire can live in a position you could fall asleep in afterwards. Heat does not require a hamstring injury. If a shape needs a safety briefing, it had better be worth it. Plenty are not.

Different bodies will laugh at different advice, which is the other serious point. What is close enough for one person is nothing for another. A tilt that changes everything for somebody with a sensitive front wall does very little for somebody who needs direct clitoral pressure and time. The moral is not that there is one correct pose hiding in the room. The moral is that your correct-enough pose is found by paying attention, then refusing to abandon it for a theory.

Porn theory is especially noisy here. Everything is vertical or folded in half or arranged so a camera could get between two ribs. Real rooms have duvets, bad knees, a neighbour, a mattress that slides off the base if you give it a reason. Real nights have to survive all of that and still feel like sex rather than a workshop. If a position only works in a film still, it is not a position. It is set design.

So try this instead of the world tour.

Start simple. Stay longer than feels fashionable. When something begins to work, treat it like a rare parking space. Do not leave it to see if there is a better one around the corner. Change one variable at a time. Pace or pressure or a hand. Not all three plus a new postcode. If you move, move because the first place stopped being good, not because you got bored of success.

Afterward, notice what you actually remember. It is rarely the clever shape. It is the stretch of two or three minutes when nobody was rearranging anybody and the room went a bit stupid. That stretch is the point. The catalogue can wait.

The joke at the end of all this is that the perfect angle is usually the one you already had, briefly, before somebody decided to improve it. The serious bit is that improvement is how a lot of people miss their own lives. In bed it just happens faster, with more knee.

Stay. Adjust a little. Let close enough be the technique.

  • Quickies Work With Focus

A quickie gets a terrible reputation for a reason. People treat it like leftover sex. The scraps. The thing you do when there is no time for the proper version, as if the proper version is always a two hour production with lighting and a soundtrack and a beginning, middle and end that would satisfy a film editor.

That is how five minutes turn cheap.

Not because five minutes is too short. Because ambition walks in and tries to cram a whole night into the gap between a locked door and a kettle boiling. Too many positions. Too much plot. Hands everywhere and nowhere useful. Clothes half off in a panic rather than half on with intent. Then both of you standing there afterwards like you have just sprinted for a bus and missed it.

Short sex works when it has a job. One job. Pick the thing that actually works and do that. Stay there. Keep the pace. Leave the variety pack in the drawer.

This is not an argument against long nights. Long nights are excellent. Long nights are where the talking happens and the teasing happens and somebody can take the scenic route around a body like they have paid for the tour. A quickie is a different animal. It is heat with a clock on it. The clock is not the enemy. The refusal to respect the clock is.

Start with the unromantic bit, because the unromantic bit decides whether anyone enjoys themselves.

Door. Time. Noise. Where the clothes can go that is not a trip hazard. Whether anyone is about to knock. Whether you need a condom or a hand on the packet before anyone is too far gone to think. Quickies fail on logistics more than they fail on chemistry. Chemistry is usually present. That is why you are in the hallway considering poor decisions. What is missing is a brain that will admit, we have seven minutes, so we are not auditioning for a highlight reel.

Clothes half on is not a compromise. It is the aesthetic and the practical truth of the thing. A skirt shoved up. A shirt still buttoned wrong. Jeans open and not even fully down. There is a specific charge in that. The body is available and the day has not been fully clocked off. You can still hear the outside world. You can still feel the ordinary life sitting one room over. That tension is doing work a scented candle will never do.

The second you try to get fully naked, find the perfect angle, relocate to the bed, dim a light and have a conversation about who is in the mood for what, you are not having a quickie any more. You are having a cancelled evening that has not admitted it yet.

Pick one position you can both do without a briefing. Against a wall if the height works and the wall can take it. Sitting on a kitchen counter if the counter is not a death trap. Bent over something sturdy. On top, but the lazy version, the grind, not the athletic show. Lying down only if the bed is already right there and nobody has to migrate like you are moving house.

Then pick a pace and treat it like a contract.

This is where most short sex goes stupid. Somebody finds a rhythm that is actually doing something and immediately decides to improve it. Faster. Deeper. A new angle. A hand that was useful leaves to go and be ambitious somewhere else. The body was climbing. The remix starts. The climb falls over.

In a long session you can recover from that. There is time to find the thread again. In a quickie there is not. The useful window is small. Guard it like it is expensive, because it is.

If a hand on the clit is what makes the rest possible, that hand stays. If a certain pressure against a certain spot is the whole trick, do not abandon it for a position that looks better in theory. If mouth first is the only way the rest of the body catches up, then start there and do not treat it as a courtesy nibble on the way to the “real” bit.

The myth that penetration is the main event is how women end up having efficient sex for somebody else. A quickie can still centre the part of the body that actually finishes the job. Fingers. Mouth. A small toy you can reach without turning on a light. Him inside and a hand where it needs to be, same time, no debate. Short does not mean simple for him and vague for you. Short means concentrated.

That is the serious centre of this.

A lot of people, men especially, hear “quickie” and translate it as “I get to skip the part I find confusing.” No warm up. No attention. No check that anyone else is even in the building. Just urgency, a bit of thrusting, a proud look, and the sense that something adult has been achieved.

Urgency is hot. Urgency without aim is just haste. Haste feels like being fitted in. There is a difference between I want you now and I can squeeze this in before my mate texts. The body knows. The body is not stupid.

So the standard is this. If there is only time for one thing, the one thing should still belong to both people. Not equally in some spreadsheet way. In the ordinary human way where nobody is being used as a convenient warm location.

Say the useful words early, because there is no second act for a long discussion.

That. Stay. Harder. Slower. Do not stop. Hand here. That is enough. A quickie is not the moment for a TED talk on desire. It is the moment for clear directions and a bit of filth if filth arrives naturally. One honest sentence will do more than a paragraph of performance.

Dirty talk in a short window goes wrong when it tries to set a scene. There is no time for a scene. There is time to name what is happening. You feel good. I have been thinking about this. Do not you dare stop. Keep it close to the facts. The facts are usually sexier than the script.

Humour helps, until it becomes a way of dodging the fact you are both a bit desperate and a bit exposed in daylight, or in work clothes, or in a bathroom that was not designed for romance. A laugh is fine. A running commentary that turns the whole thing into a joke is how the heat leaks out. You can be funny after. During, keep a little of the seriousness. Wanting someone fast is already a serious thing. It means the day was not enough. It means the body voted.

Morning versions have their own rules. Mouths are rough. Hair is a crime scene. Nobody looks like a campaign. That is the appeal if you let it be. Water helps. Lube helps more than pride will admit, especially if you have gone from sleep to yes in the space of a weather report. The lazy grind beats the sudden athletics. Save the dramatic tempo for nights with more runway.

Lunchtime versions, the ones with an hour that is not really an hour once you count walking in and looking normal after, need even more focus. Do not start something that requires a shower, a personality change and a recovery period. Choose the version that leaves you able to go back into the world without looking like you have been in a minor incident.

Night ones, the “we have twenty minutes before someone gets home” ones, are where people get greedy. Twenty minutes feels luxurious after five, so they try to have the long night in compressed form. That is how you get half of everything and all of nothing. Still pick one route. You can have a slightly longer on-ramp. You cannot have four chapters.

There is also the question of coming, which people get weird about as soon as a clock is involved.

He will often assume that if he finishes, the quickie has succeeded. That is a very tidy definition if you are him. For the other person in the room it can feel like the story ended at the interval. Sometimes there really is not time for two endings. That happens. Adults can live with it if the attention was real and nobody pretended otherwise. What wears thin is the pattern where short always means his ending and your almost.

If the short window is a regular feature of the sex life, then the planning has to include you as more than atmosphere. Start with what works for you. Or finish that way. Or keep a toy in the drawer that does not require a meeting and a mood board. Efficiency should cut the waffle, not the female half of the plot.

And if you do not come, that does not automatically make it a failure. Sometimes a quickie is about the hit of being wanted in the middle of an ordinary day. The kiss that goes too far. The hands under clothes. The proof that the other person is still in there, still animal, still interested when the calendar is being rude. That has value. It just should not be the only value on offer, week after week, while one of you keeps leaving the room more finished than the other.

Aftercare in miniature still counts. You will not get the long, stupid, tender sprawl. You can get a mouth on a mouth. A forehead. A bottle of water. A look that says that happened and I am still here. Then you both put the day back on. Button the shirt. Smooth the hair that cannot be saved. Walk back into the kitchen like the furniture has no idea.

That last part is part of the pleasure if you let it be. The return to normal. The secret sitting under smart casual. The knowledge that the body had a plot twist and now it is answering emails again. A long session changes the temperature of a whole evening. A good quickie changes the temperature of the next hour. Both are worth doing well.

What to try, practically, next time the window is small.

Decide the location before the clothes become a debate. Stay near a wall, a counter, a bed that is already there. Keep standing if standing is stable. Sit if the knees are not in the mood to be heroic.

Keep as many clothes on as the act allows. The restriction focuses the hands. It also saves the later faff of finding a sock.

Choose the single move that has the best hit rate for your body. Not the one that looks the most like sex in the abstract. The one that makes your breath change. Then refuse to upgrade it.

Put a hand where it is needed and leave it there. If that means you are touching yourself while he is doing the other part, that is not a sad compromise. That is competence.

Use spit or lube without a speech about it. Dry and rushed is how short sex becomes sore sex, and sore sex makes the next invitation less welcome.

Watch the tempo like it is the only instrument in the band. When it is working, it is working. Stay boring on purpose.

Stop when the time is gone rather than trying to steal a finale that needs another half hour. Ending cleanly is hotter than ending in a scramble.

The cheap feeling people complain about is rarely about the minutes. It is about being hurried through someone else’s urgency. Focus fixes that. Focus says, we have a small amount of time and I am going to spend it on the thing that makes this worth doing. Not on the performance of having done many things.

    That is the whole trick.

Want fast. Aim small. Stay with it. Leave the epic for the nights that can hold an epic. A quickie is not the understudy of real sex. It is real sex with a narrower brief. Treat the brief with a bit of respect and it stops feeling like leftovers. It starts feeling like the best decision anyone has made all afternoon.

  • Toys Are Not A Verdict

A small vibrator on the bedside table should not feel like a performance review. It is a piece of kit. That is the whole argument, and still it walks into a room like it has been called as a witness.

Men treat toys as a verdict. A lot of women do too, which is how the thing ends up living in a drawer until the night has already gone wrong and someone is trying to save it with plastic. By then the mood has left. The toy is not extra voltage anymore. It is a fire extinguisher, and nobody looks sexy holding a fire extinguisher.

Bring it out early. That is the advice. Not as a rescue. Not as a diplomatic incident. Early, like lube, like water, like the lamp you actually want on. If it is part of the furniture of the night, it stops meaning what people are so desperate for it to mean.

The fear is obvious and a bit exhausting. If a motor can do in two minutes what he has been circling for twenty, then what is he for. That is the story running under the joke. It sounds like insecurity because it is insecurity, and insecurity is not automatically funny when it is sitting on the bed with its feelings out. The serious version is this. A lot of men were taught that sex is something they provide. Orgasm is the product. Their body is the machine. A toy in that story is not help. It is competition. Of course they flinch.

The flinch is still not a good reason to hide the useful object.

Female orgasm is, for a lot of people, a logistics problem dressed up as a romance problem. Clitoral stimulation matters. Consistency matters. Pressure matters. Hands get tired. Angles drift. Attention wanders. A small vibrator does not replace a person. It keeps the one bit of the job that needs to stay steady actually steady while the rest of the night can still be mouths and weight and the stupid heat of another body. That is not a review of him. That is physics.

The humour writes itself anyway. The first time a toy comes out, some men look at it like it has a speaking part. They go quiet in that particular way, as if a third guest has arrived and nobody offered them a drink. Others overcorrect and become very hearty about it, the sexual equivalent of saying they love dogs while standing too close to one. A few get competitive with a piece of silicone, which is a sentence that should end careers and somehow does not.

Then there is the other reaction, the one that deserves a bit of patience. He looks briefly gutted. Not angry. Just small. The night was going well enough. He thought he was doing the thing. And now there is evidence, humming, that the thing might have a better tool. If you have ever liked someone even a little, that face is hard to laugh at in the moment. You can still refuse to build the whole evening around protecting it.

Because the alternative is worse. The alternative is the polite orgasm, the almost, the hand that starts well and then loses the plot, the man asking if that was good while the body is still mid sentence. The alternative is weeks of decent-enough sex that never quite lands, and a drawer full of solutions nobody is allowed to use in case it hurts his evening.

A toy used late has a different temperature to a toy used early. Late means the room already knows something is missing. You can feel the negotiation in it. Shall we just… Would this help… As if help were an admission. Early means the night was always going to include more than two sets of hands. It is a plan, not a verdict. People relax around plans. They brace around verdicts.

There is also the quiet truth that some nights a vibrator is simply better at one job than a person is. That should not be controversial. Cars are better at distance than legs. Glasses are better at small print than pride. Sex has this strange moral rule that the body must only be pleased by the other body, or the intimacy is somehow thinner. It is a romantic idea. It is also how a lot of women end up treating their own orgasm like a luxury add-on.

Wanting to come is not disloyal.

If the site voice needs a stance, that is it. Pleasure is allowed to be efficient. Chemistry can still be messy and human and a bit ridiculous while the useful part of the kit does the boring reliable work. Those two things can sit on the same sheet.

How to bring it out without turning the room into a seminar is the practical bit. Do not unveil it like a magic trick after forty minutes of near misses. Do not give a speech about the orgasm gap. Do not say it is fine, honestly, as if you are apologising for having a nervous system. Put it on the table when clothes are still coming off, or keep it in reach from the start. Mention it the same way you mention wanting the light lower. Casual. Specific. No trial.

Something like, this helps. Use it on me while you do the other thing. Stay there. That is enough sentence. The more explanation you pile on, the more it starts to sound like a performance note, and then you are back in the courtroom you were trying to leave.

If he takes it personally, let him have the feeling without handing him the whole night. He can feel whatever he feels. The body in the bed still gets a vote. A grown man can survive the information that vibration is useful. If he cannot, that is data about him, not about the toy.

The serious layer under the joke is control. A lot of bad feeling around toys is not really about silicone. It is about who is in charge of the ending. When the vibrator is in her hand, the pace belongs to her. She can keep the exact pressure that was working. She does not have to translate through someone else’s guesswork. For women who have spent years being a bit too nice in bed, that shift is enormous. It can also make a man feel surplus, which is uncomfortable for him and still not a reason to go back to guessing.

Used well, he is not surplus. He is the heat. He is the mouth. He is the weight and the talk and the fact that another person wants to be there. The toy is the metronome. Confusing the metronome with the band is how people get precious.

There is a version of this that stays tender. He holds it. She tells him faster, slower, there. He watches. That watching is often the bit that converts the sceptic, because it stops being an object that replaced him and becomes an object he is using on a body he is still inside the night with. Some men get unexpectedly good at it once their ego has left the building. They like competence. Give them a job with clear feedback and they calm down.

There is a worse version, which is the man who agrees and then treats the vibrator like a threat he must outperform. He speeds up. He changes position every eight seconds. He turns the toy into a race. That is how you know the verdict story is still running. The fix is the same as it is with hands. Stay. Keep the pace. Do not let him turn extra voltage into extra chaos.

Quickies change the argument again. A short night has no time for pride. Clothes half on, one aim, one tool that actually works. Morning sex is the same. Nobody has the patience for a TED talk at seven. A small vibrator in that context is not a comment on last night. It is how two sleepy people get where they are going before the kettle boils.

The drawer problem is cultural as much as personal. Toys get sold as either a joke gift or a secret. Couples keep them like contraband. Then everyone acts shocked when bringing one out feels loaded. If it lives in the open, if it charges on the same surface as the phone, the symbolism thins out. Objects lose power when they are allowed to be ordinary. Sex gets better when fewer things have to mean something.

None of this requires treating him like a child or the toy like a religion. Some nights it will stay in the drawer because the hands are enough and the mouths are enough and the night is doing that rare easy thing. Good. Use the kit when the kit would help. That is the whole sophistication.

What does not help is the rescue mission energy. The night is fading. He is trying. She is performing patience. Then the vibrator appears like an ambulance. Even if it works, the aftertaste is slightly grim. Someone got saved. Nobody wanted to need saving. Early use skips that story. It says this is one of the ways this body comes, and we are including that information from the start, like adults who would like the evening to be good.

There is also the friendship of it, which sounds a strange word for a sex article and still fits. A person who can say I need this, without wrapping it in a joke so tight the request disappears, is easier to have sex with. A person who can hear it without taking it as a scoreboard is easier too. The toy is just the prop that makes that conversation visible.

Laugh at the awkward bit. The beep. The wrong setting. The sudden industrial hum in a quiet room. The moment he holds it like a microphone. That stuff is funny because bodies are funny and objects are funny and sex is already one ungainly inch away from slapstick even when it is working. The humour keeps the thing from becoming a manifesto.

Then put the joke down long enough to keep the point. A lot of women are having almost-good sex and calling it fine. A lot of men are working hard at the wrong job and calling that intimacy. A small vibrator will not fix a man who does not listen, and it will not fix a night with no heat in it. It will fix the specific, boring, important problem of stimulation that disappears at the exact second it needed to stay.

    Extra voltage. Not a verdict.

Put it out while the night still has its clothes half on. Use it while he is still in the room as a person, not as a project. Keep the pace. Keep the rest of the body involved. Let him feel whatever flutters up in his chest and then get on with the part where two people are actually trying to make the bed worth being in.

The drawer can keep the winter jumpers. The useful things belong where a hand can find them before anyone has to start negotiating with pride.

  • Finish Yourself If Needed

The night can be good and still not finish the job. That sentence makes people twitch, which is already the problem.

Good sex is not the same thing as a completed circuit. Heat can be there. Timing can be there. He can be trying in that sincere, slightly proud way men have when they think effort is the same as accuracy. The whole thing can feel close, generous, even tender. And then it can stop one town short of where the body actually needed to get off.

At that point a hand is allowed.

Not as a protest. Not as a review left on his performance. As logistics. Pleasure does not need a permission slip from him, and it does not become rude just because it arrives by a different route than the one he had in mind.

This is where the room often goes strange. He has come. He is loose and pleased with himself. He asks the question with hope already baked into it. You say something kind, or you say nothing, or you make the noise that keeps the peace. Meanwhile the body is still sitting there with its shoes on, waiting for a last piece of information that never came.

Politeness has wrecked more orgasms than bad lighting.

There is a reason this keeps happening. A lot of sex is built around his timeline. Build, rush, release, quiet. His body treats finishing as the end of the scene. Yours might still be mid paragraph. If the night is organised around the first person who gets there, guess who keeps getting left holding the plot.

None of this requires a villain. Plenty of them are not selfish so much as finished. The urgency leaves them. The commentary leaves them. They assume that because they feel complete, the room must feel complete. It is a failure of imagination more than a crime. It is still a failure.

The serious bit is simple. If you keep outsourcing the last inch of your own pleasure to someone who has already clocked off, you will spend years having almost. Almost is a rotten diet. It looks like a sex life from a distance. Up close it is a lot of heat with a missing ending.

The funny bit is how delicate everyone pretends this is. A grown adult can put a mouth on another grown adult, make the sort of sounds that would get a neighbour complaining, and then act as if a hand on a clitoris afterwards is a diplomatic incident. The same man who wanted filth ten minutes earlier can take personal offence at the idea that the job might need a postscript.

Let him. Offence is not the same as harm.

There is a particular myth that finishing yourself in his company means he failed. Sometimes he did. Sometimes the angle was wrong, the pace wandered off, the clit got treated like a doorbell, or he came and immediately joined a silent order on the ceiling. Sometimes the night was genuinely good and your body just needed more time than his did. Those two facts can sit in the same bed without one of them cancelling the other.

An orgasm is not a medal you award him for participation. It is a thing your nervous system does when it has had the right kind of attention for long enough. If that attention has to come from you at the end, the night does not become lesser. It becomes finished.

The hesitation is rarely about technique. Most people know how they come when they are alone. The hesitation is social. It is the fear of looking greedy. It is the fear of making him feel small. It is the old training that says a good time is the one that leaves him comfortable. So the body gets abandoned in favour of the atmosphere.

Atmosphere does not make you come.

If the idea of doing it in front of him makes the room feel too bright, start with the least theatrical version. You do not need a speech. You do not need to announce a thesis on the orgasm gap. You stay where you are. You kiss him or you do not. You take his hand and put it where it was useful, or you use your own and let him stay close enough to understand what close actually looks like.

That last part matters. A lot of them copy what they are shown. If the only version they ever see is the polite one, they will keep delivering the polite one. If they see what actually works, some of them learn. The ones who sulk are giving you data. Sulking at someone else’s pleasure is not shyness. It is a man who liked the idea of being good in bed more than he liked the reality of a body that did not follow his script.

There is a cleaner way to handle the moment than turning it into a seminar. Keep the tone in the same register as the sex. Warm. Direct. A bit filthy if that is the language you were already using. “I am close.” “Stay there.” “I am going to finish.” Those are not insults. They are stage directions. Men love direction when it sounds like desire. They hate it when it sounds like a performance review. So do not review him. Keep going.

Toys belong in this conversation too, because people still treat them like a referee’s whistle. A small vibrator is not a verdict on his whole personality. It is extra voltage. If the night has been good and the ending is stalling, there is no prize for doing it the hard way out of loyalty. Loyalty is a lovely quality in a friendship. It is a stupid quality in an orgasm.

Use what works. Hand, toy, his mouth if he still has one available and has not mentally left for the station. The method is not the moral. The ending is.

Morning sex makes this even more obvious. Nobody has the plot energy for a saga at seven. If he comes and rolls toward the pillow like a man who has paid a bill, you are allowed to take the last minute for yourself before the day starts eating you. It can be lazy. It can be almost boring. Boring and effective is still effective.

Quickies are the same maths with less time. Short does not mean you donate the ending. If there are five minutes, spend four on the thing that actually moves the needle and stop treating penetration like the only official language. Official language is how people end up dressed again and faintly annoyed.

The body keeps its own score, even when the mouth is busy being nice. That leftover buzz, the sense of having been put down before the song finished, the way you can feel generous and slightly cheated at the same time: that is information. Ignore it often enough and desire starts arriving with a flinch. Not because you have gone off sex. Because sex keeps almost paying out and your nervous system is not a slot machine.

There is also the other side, the one people skip because it is less cinematic. Sometimes you will not come. Not every night is a project. Tired, stressed, head elsewhere, the timing off by a mile. Finishing yourself is an option, not a homework assignment. The point is permission, not a new standard where every encounter must produce a neat result or it gets marked incomplete.

What you are dropping is the habit of disappearing yourself to keep his ending tidy.

That habit is old. It shows up in the fake soundtrack, in the quick “yeah” when the honest answer is “nearly,” in the way a person can spend an hour being generous with their mouth and then treat their own body like an afterthought. It is not mysterious. It is manners applied to the wrong room. Manners are for his mother. This is a bed.

If you want the serious version in one line: your pleasure is part of the sex, not a complimentary extra if there is time. If you want the comic version: he can survive the sight of you finishing. He survived the journey there. He can survive the last stop.

Some of them will surprise you by being into it. Plenty of men like watching. They just never got invited to the useful version, only the performed one. Show the useful version. Let him see the pace, the pressure, the fact that it is often smaller and steadier than the showy stuff. Let him clock that “do not move” is not a personality attack. It is instructions for a body that was already close.

Some of them will go quiet. That is a different article and also the same article. Quiet after he comes is one thing. Quiet because you stayed in the scene after he left it is another. One is biology with bad manners. The other is ego. You can live with tired. You do not have to live with a man who treats your orgasm like an unauthorised sequel.

Practically, keep it simple enough that you will actually do it. Do not wait for a perfect speech. Do not wait until you are home alone rewriting the night in your head. If the heat is still there, use it. If he asks what you are doing, tell him the truth in as few words as possible. “I was close.” That sentence has never killed anyone.

If the mood has gone and the window has closed, leave it. Forcing an ending after the room has cooled is how people turn pleasure into admin. The rule is not that you must finish. The rule is that you are allowed to.

There will be nights when his mouth or his hands get you there and the whole debate can stay theoretical. Good. Take those nights. Enjoy the rare creature who understands that the scene does not end when he does. Then, on the other nights, do not betray a perfectly decent time by abandoning it at the last corner out of etiquette.

Sex is already full of logistics. Where the knee goes. Whether the lamp should be on. Who has work in the morning. Whether anyone is going to cramp. Adding “and I might finish this myself” to the list is not chaos. It is adult. The body asked for something. Somebody in the room can still answer.

Let it be a bit inelegant. Let it be obvious. Let it be quicker than the conversation you would otherwise have with yourself at 1am, staring at the ceiling, giving him a better review than the night deserved.

The night was good. The ending was missing. A hand is not an insult.

It is how you close the door properly.

  • Oral Is Not A Warmup

Oral gets treated like the queue for something else.

That is the whole problem. It arrives with the energy of a complimentary bread basket. Nice. Expected. Not the reason anyone sat down. He does a bit, she does a bit, someone makes an encouraging noise, and then the night is ushered toward the main course as if a waiter has just appeared with a look that says, shall I take those plates?

It is a stupid way to treat a mouth.

The second oral becomes a warmup, it goes polite. Polite is death. Polite is the difference between someone actually being there and someone completing a stage of a process they saw in a diagram. You can feel it. The tempo gets brisk. The attention gets general. He moves just when it starts working because he thinks variety is the same thing as skill. Or she starts thinking about her thigh, or the angle, or whether this is taking too long, because the room has already decided that this part is temporary.

Temporary is a rotten atmosphere for a nervous system.

Sex that works is mostly permission to stay. Not stay as in freeze like a statue. Stay as in, this is doing something, so do not promote yourself out of the job. Oral is where that lesson either lands or gets thrown in the bin. It is close. It is specific. It does not survive being treated like a corridor.

There is a serious version of this and a funny version, and they live in the same bed.

The funny version is the courtesy lap. A few optimistic minutes. A bit of wandering. The sudden appearance of a technique that has clearly been rehearsed on a screen and never road tested on a person. Then the hopeful glance up, the silent question, was that enough to count? As if pleasure were a loyalty card and he has just stamped it.

The serious version is that a lot of people never come from penetration alone and still get rushed toward it like that is where legitimacy lives. Oral is one of the few things that actually matches how a lot of bodies work. So of course it gets demoted. Of course it becomes the bit you do to be generous before the real thing. The culture is still slightly embarrassed by a mouth doing honest work. Penetration looks like a plot. Oral looks like lingering. Lingering makes people twitch.

    Slow down.

That is not a vibe. That is instructions.

Fast oral is how you end up with a lot of movement and very little information. The body does not file a complaint in language. It just fails to climb. Then everyone wonders why the night felt busy and strangely unfinished. Speed reads as enthusiasm. It is often just nerves. Or porn pacing. Or the fear that if this takes more than a song length, someone will get bored and start thinking.

    Boredom is allowed to wait.

If it is working, the job is not to improve it. The job is not to add a flourish, change sides, introduce a new idea you saw last Thursday, or check whether a different pressure might be even better. The job is to stay in the postcode. Small adjustments, yes. A grand tour, no. Most of the damage is done by people who were one minute away from being useful and could not bear the lack of spectacle.

There is a particular male habit of treating the clitoris like a doorbell. Press, wait, press again, try the letterbox, go back to the doorbell. It would be hilarious if it were not happening to an actual body. Consistency is not glamorous. Consistency is how you get there. The same place, the same pressure, the same boring little rhythm until the boring little rhythm becomes the only thing in the room.

On the other side of the bed, there is the habit of giving oral like a performance review. Too much theatre. Too much proving. A jaw with something to prove is not a gift. It is a project. The hot version is simpler. Want to be there. Sound like you want to be there. Do not treat it as the supporting act you are rushing so that you can get yours. People can feel intention in a mouth. They can also feel a timetable.

That is the unsexy truth underneath the jokes. Oral is attention with nowhere to hide. You cannot half do it and call it chemistry. You are either present or you are visiting.

Comfort decides more than talent. Neck angle. Pillow under the hips. A leg that is going to sleep. Hair in the mouth. The room being too bright or too cold or slightly too performative. People talk about technique as if bodies were instruments that only need the right fingering. Bodies are also just bodies. If someone is braced, twisted, or quietly thinking about their stomach, the cleverest mouth in Essex is wasting its time. Make it easy to receive. That is part of the act, not the admin around it.

Time is the other logistics problem. If oral is squeezed into the gap before the thing he actually came over for, it will feel like that. Scarcity makes people hurry. Hurry makes people clumsy. Clumsy gets dressed up as passion because nobody wants to say, I did not leave enough night for this. Leave enough night. Or do it as the night. There is nothing legally requiring a finale that looks like a film.

A lot of women have been trained to treat receiving oral as a favour they should be grateful for, which is how you get the worst of both worlds. He thinks he is being generous. She thinks she should make it easy for him by coming quickly or pretending the wandering is fine. Nobody says stay. Nobody says left a bit. Nobody says that was it, you just left it. The mouth keeps travelling. The moment keeps dying. Then everyone agrees it was lovely and wonders why it did not quite land.

Direction is not ungrateful. Direction is how a mouth learns a person instead of a theory.

“There” is enough. “Do not move” is enough. “Slower” is a full sentence. If that feels blunt, good. Blunt is kinder than a polite moan that trains him to keep doing the wrong thing with confidence. Men copy what they think is working. If the feedback is theatre, the technique becomes theatre. If the feedback is specific, there is a chance the next time will not be a remix.

There is humour in how frightened people are of being good at this in a plain way. They want to be inventive. They want to be praised for creativity. Creativity is how tongues end up everywhere except the place that asked for them. The erotic part is not the range. It is the focus. Someone settling in. Someone not treating your body like a tasting menu. Someone breathing, adjusting once, and then having the nerve to continue.

That nerve is rarer than it should be.

Receiving well is a skill too, and it is an unfashionable thing to say. It means not apologising for taking minutes. It means not pulling him up too early because the intensity got inconvenient. It means not turning it into a production about whether you look relaxed enough to deserve it. The body climbs better when it is allowed to be a bit selfish. Not cruel. Just not hosting. You cannot host your own nervous system and expect it to finish on time.

Giving well has a similar discipline. Watch. Listen. Stay when the breath changes. Do not take that change as a cue to escalate like a DJ who thinks the crowd is bored. The breath changing often means keep going, you idiot. Not add jazz hands.

Toys can sit in this conversation without turning it into a product demo. A small vibrator during oral is not a criticism of a mouth. It is extra voltage. Used early, it feels like part of the same attention. Used at the last second as a rescue, it feels like someone trying to save a sinking plot. The difference is attitude. Everything in this category is attitude.

The orgasm gap lives here, whether people like that phrase or not. If the reliable route gets treated as optional garnish, of course the numbers look stupid. Of course people start thinking they are difficult. Of course the night becomes a rush toward a kind of sex that photographs better in the imagination and performs worse in the body. Oral is not morally superior. It is just, for a lot of people, the thing that actually works. Demoting what works is a peculiar hobby.

There is also the quieter point about being wanted specifically for that. Not as a prelude. As the point. A mouth that is happy to be there changes the temperature of the whole room. It says the body is not a queueing system. It says pleasure does not need a more respectable shape before it counts. That sounds soft. It is not soft in practice. In practice it is someone on their knees or between someone’s legs with no glance at the clock and no sense that they are waiting for a promotion.

The joke writes itself because so many people are terrible at waiting. They get close to usefulness and panic. They confuse motion with care. They want credit for starting. Starting is easy. Staying is the bit with character.

So treat it like the point.

Put a pillow where a pillow would help. Take the hair out of the way. Slow the first minute down until it stops looking like a trailer. When it starts working, resist the urge to demonstrate range. Keep the pressure. Keep the place. Let it get a bit repetitive. Repetition is not the enemy of heat. It is how heat concentrates.

If you are on the receiving side, say the useful words before the moment has already gone. If you are on the giving side, pick a lane and commit. If the night is short, do this rather than doing a polite version of everything. A committed ten minutes beats a restless half hour of almost.

And if it turns into a courtesy lap anyway, notice it. That noticing is the whole craft. The second it goes general, the second it becomes something to get through on the way to a more official act, the thing has already become manners.

    Manners have their place.

    This is not that place.

  • Say The Filthy Thing Anyway

Dirty talk has a branding problem. People hear the phrase and picture a man growling something he learned from a laptop at two in the morning, or a woman trying to sound like a paid extra in a scene she would fast forward through. That is why so many mouths go polite the second the clothes are gone. The fear is not silence. The fear is sounding like an idiot with your kit off.

Fair. Most of the famous lines are terrible. They arrive in the room already wearing costume. Too much plot. Too much performance. Too little connection to the actual body in the actual bed. A person can be properly turned on and still freeze because the only scripts on file are embarrassing.

    Say the filthy thing anyway.

Not the speech. Not the monologue. Not the thing that would need a director and better lighting. One short line that belongs to what is happening. Specific. A bit rude. Named out loud instead of left to guesswork and hopeful facial expressions.

That is the whole trick, and it is harder than it sounds because wanting and wording live in different parts of the head. Want is easy. Want is heat and stupid decisions and the particular focus that makes a Tuesday night feel important. Wording asks you to stay present while you are busy being present. It asks you to notice, then say the noticing, without climbing onto a stage.

The rehearsed version fails for a boring reason. It is not about the person in front of you. It is about an idea of sex. The idea has a vocabulary. The vocabulary has been used so often it has no fingerprints left. You can hear the join where the sentence was lifted. You can feel the effort. Effort is many things. Sexy is rarely one of them.

The honest version is smaller. It sounds like someone who is actually in the room. It names a mouth, a hand, a pace, a bit of the body that is working. It does not require poetry. It requires attention.

There is a serious point under the joke. A lot of average sex is not average because of technique. It is average because nobody is willing to narrate the useful parts. People hope the other person will trip over the right spot and stay there by luck. They make encouraging noises that could mean anything. They swallow the sentence that would have saved the next five minutes. Then they wonder why the night felt busy and still missed.

Dirty talk, done properly, is not decoration. It is information wearing a filthy coat. Stay there. Harder. That. Your mouth. Do not stop. I want that again. None of that needs a violin. All of it tells a body what to do while the body is still interested in doing it.

Women get told to communicate and then get given no usable examples that do not sound like a worksheet. So the options become silence or a performance. Silence keeps the peace and wastes the night. Performance gets a reaction and often the wrong one. The middle is the adult move. Short. Clear. A little rude on purpose, because rudeness, in this context, is just accuracy with its shirt off.

The shame is the tax on that middle. Say something explicit and a person can feel the old story arrive. Too much. Too keen. Too experienced. Too willing to look like she knows what she likes. That story is tired and it still works. It keeps mouths careful. It keeps nights polite. It keeps a lot of women making sounds instead of sentences because sounds can be blamed on the moment and sentences look like intent.

    Intent is the point.

If you want a thing, the cleanest path is to put it in language. Not a manifesto. A line. The first one will feel too big in the mouth. That is normal. Most unused muscles feel dramatic when they finally clock on. Say it anyway. The room almost always survives.

Men are not a separate species here, even when they act like one. Plenty of them want to be directed and would rather die than admit it. Plenty of them fill the quiet with borrowed filth because quiet makes them nervous. Plenty of them get better the second the guesswork ends. A specific sentence saves their ego more kindly than a vague sigh that could mean yes, no, or please get off my hair.

There is humour in how wrong the big lines land. The sudden character change. The man who was talking like a person and then becomes a late night channel. The woman who goes from ordinary conversation to a script that would make a soap actor blush for different reasons. It is funny because it is a mismatch. The body is doing one thing. The mouth is doing community theatre.

Better to sound a bit blunt than a bit fake. Blunt can be hot. Fake goes cold in the air and stays there.

What to try is simple enough to write on a note in a phone and still difficult at midnight.

Name what you can see. Your hands. That mouth. The way he is looking. The obvious is allowed. Sex is not improved by mystery once you are already naked. Mystery is for the bar. The bed wants coordinates.

Name what you want next. Not a five point plan. The next thirty seconds. Slower. Keep doing that. I want you to talk. I want your fingers. People overcomplicate this because they think desire has to arrive as a paragraph. It does not. Desire is often a verb and an object.

Name what is working while it is working. This is the one that gets dropped. A person waits until afterwards, if they mention it at all, by which point the information has all the erotic charge of minutes from a meeting. Catch it live. That. Exactly that. The timing is the heat.

Drop the voice you do not have. If you do not sound like a film, do not audition for one. Your ordinary voice doing an extraordinary sentence is better. A husky mutter. A laugh in it. A bit of Essex, a bit of office, a bit of I cannot believe I am saying this and I am saying it anyway. That catch in the throat is more honest than a growl with no biography.

Leave room for him to answer. Dirty talk that only goes one way is just a broadcast. Ask a short question if the night can take it. You like that. Tell me. The point is not an interview. The point is two people staying in the same scene.

Do not outsource the whole job to noises. Breath is good. A real sound is good. A soundtrack of performed pleasure is how nights become something you watch yourself have. If the noise is fake, the talking will feel fake too. Cut the extras. Keep the true ones.

There is a practical limit, and it matters. Filthy is not the same as careless. A line can be rude about what you want without being nasty about a body. Comment on the heat, the pace, the mouth, the fact you want him. Skip the critiques dressed up as dirty talk. Nobody is improved mid stroke by a performance review. If something is wrong, say it straight and small. Less teeth. Not there. Move up. Kind and clear still counts as explicit when the lights are down.

Consent lives in this too, even when the article is meant to be fun. The short check is not the enemy of heat. It can be the heat. Want this. Say if you want me to stop. Those sentences are not a mood killer unless the mood was only working because nobody was allowed to have a preference. A person who can say the filthy thing can also say the boundary. Same muscle. Same mouth. Better nights.

The first time you do it, pick the lowest risk line. Something true and almost boring. You feel good. I want more of that. Do not begin with a thesis. Begin with the thing your body is already doing. Then let the language catch up.

If he goes quiet, that is data. Some men hear direct talk and get better immediately, like a sat nav that has finally been given the right road. Some look startled, which is often just unused to being included. Some reach for a porn sentence because they think they are supposed to match you for volume. You do not have to meet them in the costume box. Stay specific. They usually follow the plain version once they realise it is allowed.

If you go quiet after trying, that is data as well. Maybe the line was too big. Maybe the shame arrived late and sat on your chest. Try again on a different night with a smaller sentence. Skill is not a personality you either have or do not. It is reps. Awkward reps count.

There is a particular pleasure in getting it right that people do not mention because it sounds unromantic. It is administrative and filthy at the same time. You say the thing. He does the thing. The room improves. No guesswork. No polite endurance. Just two adults using language like it was invented for this.

That is why the copied speeches fail. They are trying to create an atmosphere instead of describing one. Atmosphere is already there if the night is any good. The job is to point at it.

Say you want his mouth and mean his mouth. Say you like how hard he is and do not turn it into a poem. Say do not stop when do not stop is the only useful instruction left. Say it in the voice you actually have, even if that voice also talks about printers and rent and whose turn it is to buy milk.

The serious part is this. A lot of people will spend years hoping to be read correctly in the dark. Mind reading is a lovely fantasy and a rotten system. Words are ruder and kinder. They let you keep your dignity without pretending you do not have an appetite.

The funny part is that the sentence you are scared of is usually shorter than the excuse you make for not saying it. Whole internal essays. Whole predictions about how it will sound. Then the actual line is four words and the world does not end. He does not laugh, or he does laugh and it is fine, because a bit of laugh in bed is not a fire alarm. It is proof someone is still a person.

Say the filthy thing anyway. Keep it short. Keep it true. Let it be a bit clumsy if clumsy is honest. The night does not need a script. It needs a mouth that is willing to tell the truth while it still matters.

  • He Goes Quiet After Coming

He can talk for Britain on the way in. Filthy little novelist. Full sentences. Timing. Jokes that land right against the neck. He will tell you exactly what he wants to do and then he will do half of it and describe the other half like it is already happening. Chatty. Present. Almost impressive.

    Then he comes.

And that is it. Personality clocks off. Body stays behind like a coat on a chair. The mouth that would not shut up ten minutes ago has joined a monastery. Classic.

It is one of the great male mysteries and it never gets less funny. Not tragic. Funny. A bit rude. Slightly erotic in the way unfinished business always is. You are still warm. Still in it. Still halfway through a thought that started with his voice in your ear. He is already somewhere else. Same bed. Different postcode.

The build up is never the problem. That part he understands. Wanting is a language he speaks fluently. He will text. He will hover. He will find reasons to stand too close in the kitchen. He will do that low laugh that means the evening has a destination. By the time clothes are on the floor he is generous with words. Good boy energy mixed with a bit of smug. He likes being wanted and he likes saying so. Fine. More than fine. That version of him is good company.

The switch is what does the head in. Not even a fade. A cut. One second he is gripping and muttering and making the kind of noise that would get a noise complaint in a thinner wall flat. Next second he is a warm statue with a pulse. Eyes soft. Brain emptied. Conversation skills packed into a bag and left in the hall.

Some of them go for the roll. Classic geography. Face in the pillow. One arm flung out like he has been shot, but politely. Some stare at the ceiling like it owes them an explanation. Some reach for the phone with a speed that should be studied. Not even a full minute. Thumb already moving. As if the universe might have sent a notification more interesting than the person still breathing next to them.

The phone is its own punchline. All that urgency. All that focus. Then suddenly emails exist again. Football scores exist again. A group chat that has been silent for six hours suddenly requires his full attention. You can watch the man leave the room without standing up.

There is a scientific explanation if you want one, and people always do, because calling it what it is feels too simple. Prolactin. Refractory period. Nervous system swapping shifts. The engine that was screaming for contact now wants a dark room and no homework. Fair enough. Bodies are messy little machines. They peak and then they sulk. That part is not personal.

    The manners are personal.

Because he can still say something. He managed an entire dirty monologue twenty minutes ago. He can manage water. A hand. A stupid comment. Anything that proves the person who wanted in is still in the building. Instead there is this thick quiet, like someone muted the film and forgot to tell the other actor.

And it is specific, the quiet. Not peaceful. Not afterglow. It is the quiet of a man who has completed a task. Tick. Done. Next. Except there is no next. There is just you, still humming, and him, already halfway to sleep or scrolling or thinking about whether he left the bathroom light on.

The sexy part, if we are being honest, is the contrast. That is the hook. He was so in it. Mouthy. Keen. Eyes on you like you were the only plot twist in his week. That version is hot. The drop after is what makes the whole thing feel like a trick. Not a cruel one. A sloppy one. Like he spent the budget on the first half of the night and hoped nobody would notice the ending was underwritten.

Some of them try a single sentence. That was nice. You good. Tired now. All of which are technically English and spiritually nothing. You good is the worst. It is not a question. It is a full stop wearing a wig. It means I have finished my bit. Please do not require additional personality.

Others go tender for ninety seconds and then the shutters come down. A kiss on the shoulder. A squeeze. Then gone. As if affection has a timer and it ran out with the orgasm. Which is a hell of a business model.

There is a theory floating about that the quiet is shame. That some of them feel exposed the second they are not performing hunger. Wanting is allowed. Having had is complicated. The second it is over they remember they have a job and a mother and a reputation and suddenly the sweaty, swearing, begging version of themselves needs to be filed away. So they go blank. Easier than staying in the room as a person who just made a noise like that.

Maybe. Some nights it tracks. The ones who were filthiest on the way in often go the quietest after. Like the mouth needs to atone. Ridiculous. Also very them.

Another theory is simpler and ruder. He got what he came for. The conversation was part of the getting. Once the getting is got, the conversation has no job. That one stings a bit because it is occasionally true and nobody likes a true thing that is also unflattering. Not all of them. Enough of them.

The confusing bit is that the same man can be clingy in the abstract. Wants closeness. Says sex makes him feel close. Then the closeness arrives and he treats it like a draft. He will tell you, on a Tuesday, that physical stuff is how he shows he is in it. Friday night he shows he is in it for eleven minutes and then becomes furniture. So which is it. Is the sex the language or is the sex the full stop.

This is where they get properly baffling. They will insist they are simple. Hungry, straightforward, not overthinkers. Then they perform this tiny vanishing act that takes a seminar to unpack. Simple men do not evaporate after coming. Simple men stay in the bed they just made a mess of and act like a person.

The ones who stay are a different species and they spoil you for the monks. They talk rubbish. They laugh at the awkward bit. They get water without being asked. They keep a hand somewhere that is not a demand. They do not treat the orgasm like the credits. Those ones make the quiet ones look even funnier, which is saying something.

Because it is funny. That is the part that saves it. You lie there with your heart still doing laps and he is conducting a vow of silence like he joined an order between the second and third thrust. The dignity of it. The commitment. He could not keep a secret in a pub if you paid him. He will tell a stranger his whole Sunday. But post climax he becomes a locked drawer.

There is also the sleep fake. Special category. Eyes shut too fast. Breathing a little too performed. Not asleep. Hiding. The body is heavy and satisfied and the social energy has left the chat. So he pretends the night is over in case someone asks him to be present for the last ten percent. Cowardice, but soft cowardice. The kind you can almost forgive if the sex was decent.

If the sex was mid, the quiet is louder. That is just physics. A good ending can carry a bit of mute. A mediocre ending plus mute is just a man who has run out of material. You can feel the difference. One is a body cooling down. The other is a performance that did not have an encore planned.

What makes it sexy, still, against all odds, is the animal of it. The fact that he can be so in his body that language falls out of him. That part is not nothing. There is something honest in the collapse. He wanted. He took. He emptied. The lights dimmed because the fuse blew. Fine. Bodies do that. The erotic leftover is that you got to watch the whole system overload and then sit in the dark with the evidence.

The problem is he forgets there is another system in the bed that has not blown yet. Different wiring. Longer fuse. Sometimes the wanting stays after the finishing. Sometimes the skin still wants a voice attached to it. Not a speech. Not a debrief. Just proof that the person who was so interested in getting in has not already left.

He does not owe a TED talk. Nobody sensible is asking for that. A grunt with warmth in it would do. A laugh. Your name. Anything that is not the emotional equivalent of putting his coat on indoors.

Instead, silence. Thick enough to lean on. The radiator ticks. A car goes past. He swallows. You can hear him thinking about nothing, which is impressive in its own way. All that blood went south and took the chat with it.

People dress this up as post nut clarity, as if he has accessed some higher truth and the truth is quiet. Please. Most of the time the clarity is just that he is tired and slightly stunned and does not want to accidentally say something affectionate he cannot stand by in the morning. So he says nothing. Safer. Colder. Very efficient.

The morning version is its own sequel. If the night quiet was a fade, the morning can be a rewrite. Suddenly he can talk again. Coffee. Plans. Work. As if the mute button was location specific and only worked in the dark. Daylight restores the software. Night him remains an unsolved file.

That is the creature in full. Nocturnal mouth. Post climax monk. Breakfast conversationalist. Three men sharing one body and none of them thought to leave a note.

It would be easier if it was always selfish. Then you could file it and move on. Sometimes it is shy. Sometimes it is spent. Sometimes it is a boy who never got told that the last ten minutes count as part of the sex. He thinks the event ends when he does. Like a goal. Ball in net. Walk off the pitch. No idea the other team is still on the field stretching.

So the quiet sits there, ridiculous and a bit hot and faintly insulting, and you learn the shape of it. You learn which ones go blank because they are shy and which ones go blank because they are done. You learn that a hand in the dark is a full paragraph. You learn that the chatty ones are not automatically the kind ones. Talk is cheap on the way in. Talk after is the tell.

He will do it again. Of course he will. The build up will be lovely. The mouth will come back for the wanting. That part he rehearses. The leaving he does on instinct. And every time it is the same small comedy. A man who can narrate a whole seduction cannot manage a sentence once he has got what the seduction was for.

The body stays. Warm. Heavy. Harmless. The person who was in it has stepped out for air and forgotten the way back. Classic. Infuriating. Weirdly intimate, because you are the only one who watched him go.

You can lie there and find it funny. You should. It is funny. A grown man silenced by his own nervous system like a laptop that overheated. All that swagger. All that talk. Then nothing. Just breath and skin and the faint sense that if you asked him what year it was he would need a minute.

That is the article. That is the creature. Chatty on the way in. Monk on the way out. And somehow still convinced he is not confusing at all.
