  • Try Giving Directions Out Loud

The room does not need a screenplay. It needs a few ordinary words said at the right time.

    Left. Harder. Slower. There.

That is the whole trick, and people still treat it like public speaking. They wait. They hint. They make a little noise and hope he translates it into a postcode. Then they wonder why the night keeps missing the turning.

I used to do the polite version. A shift of the hip. A hand placed like a suggestion. A moan that could have meant anything from yes to please stop remixing what was actually working. Men are not psychic. Some of them are not even paying that much attention. They are busy with their own plot. If you do not put a sentence in the air, they will fill the gap with whatever they last watched, last tried, or last decided must be impressive.

Porn language makes people shy because it does not belong in a real mouth. Nobody sounds natural saying the lines they have only ever heard through laptop speakers. So they say nothing. Silence feels safer than sounding daft. The problem is silence gets read as permission to keep going exactly as they are.

Plain instructions make people useful. That is not a vibe. That is a fact.

There is a serious reason this matters and it is not about being a director in cheap lingerie. A lot of bad sex is just miscommunication wearing confidence. He thinks faster means better. He thinks changing position every forty seconds means he is generous. He thinks the sound you made two minutes ago still applies now that he has moved two inches and lost the plot. You know what you need. Your body is not being mysterious. Your manners are.

Women get trained early to protect the mood. Do not make him self conscious. Do not seem demanding. Do not kill the atmosphere by turning a kiss into a briefing. So we swallow the note and hope he stumbles onto the right thing, like desire is a lucky dip. Sometimes he does. Often he does not. Then everybody performs a version of having a nice time and the actual nice time never clocks in.

I am not interested in that anymore. High drive does not mean grateful for whatever lands. It means I notice when it is rubbish. It means I would rather say one blunt sentence than spend twenty minutes being almost there.

The words can be ugly. They should be. Pretty talk is how people hide. “A bit to the left” is not poetry and that is why it works. “Stay” is not a monologue. “Do not stop” only works if he understands that do not stop includes do not get creative. Most of them hear encouragement and take it as a prompt to improve the scene. They add speed. They add a new angle. They add a hand in a place that was fine being ignored. The minute that was building falls over.

Say it like you are giving directions to a taxi. Not rude. Not theatrical. Just clear enough that the driver does not sail past the house.

    There. Like that. Keep that.

If he is in his ego, those words will sting. That is useful information. A man who cannot take a simple instruction in bed is telling you how he handles the rest of you. He wants to be good. He does not want to be guided. Those are not the same hobby.

The funny part is how small the fix is and how dramatic people act about it. You would think asking for a slower pace was a legal document. You would think “harder” was a personality change. It is a verb. Use it. The body already knows the difference between almost and yes. The mouth is the last thing to catch up because the mouth is worried about sounding like a manager.

I have watched competent, charming men go oddly fragile the second a woman becomes specific. They were fine when the feedback was a noise. A noise can be filed under I am doing well. A sentence can be filed under I was not quite doing well. That flinch is not always vanity. Sometimes it is panic. He has been told sex is something he should already know. Direction sounds like a report card.

You can make it easier without watering it down. Touch while you talk. Put his hand where you want it and say the word at the same time. People hear better when their skin is involved. Do it early, before the whole thing has a plot he is proud of. The later you leave it, the more it feels like a correction. Early is just part of the weather.

Try it in daylight first if the dark makes you cowardly. On the sofa. In the kitchen. A sentence about what you like when nobody is mid performance. “I go quiet when it is good, so if I say stay I mean stay.” That one line saves an entire later argument with his improvisation.

Ordinary words also protect you from the script. Once you start performing dirty talk you do not mean, you are acting. Acting is tiring. It also teaches him the wrong play. If you moan like a clip because you think that is the done thing, he will chase the clip. Then you are both in a scene neither of you is actually in. Your actual voice is filthier than you think, not because it is shocking, but because it is true. Truth has a heat fake language cannot copy.

There is a balance here and it is worth getting right. Direction is not a running commentary. You do not need to narrate every breath. That turns the bed into a satnav with a headache. Say the thing when the thing changes. Say it when he is close to useful and about to wander off. Say it when you want more and he has started treating your body like a suggestion box.

    Left.

    Wait.

    Again.

    Those are complete sentences.

People worry it will make them sound experienced in a way that gets them labelled. Let them label. Reputation is other people’s paperwork. Wanting sex and knowing how you like it is not a scandal. It is literacy. The double standard only works if you agree to whisper. Say the word out loud and the spell thins out. You are allowed to have taste. You are allowed to have a map.

The other fear is that talking will break the spell. Sometimes it does, and that is not a tragedy. If one honest instruction kills the mood, the mood was made of glass. Better to find that out than to keep padding around a man who can only function if nobody tells him the truth. Good sex can survive a sentence. In fact good sex often starts at the sentence. The air clears. He stops guessing. You stop bracing.

I like the moment after you have said it and he actually does it. Not as a treat. As a response. Something in the room drops its shoulders. You can feel the difference between a man performing skill and a man paying attention. Attention is the hot part. Technique is just the tools. Plenty of people have tools. Fewer people listen.

If he listens, reward that in the same language. Yes. That. More of that. Positive direction is still direction. It stops him panicking that every word out of your mouth is a complaint. Men are simple in this one way. They like knowing they have landed. Tell them when they have. Then tell them not to leave the landing.

If he does not listen, do not escalate into a seminar. Repeat it once, clearer. If he still treats it like optional colour, stop the scene. Starting is not a contract to continue. A clean no in a warm room is better than pushing through out of manners. Manners ruin nights. They also train both of you. You learn to shrink. He learns that your words are decoration.

That is the serious bit I will not joke off. A lot of us were taught to keep the peace with our bodies. Make it nice. Do not embarrass him. Get it over with if it has already begun. That is how you end up expert in other people’s pleasure and amateur in your own. Saying left and harder is a small rebellion against that training. It is also basic safety. Your mouth is part of consent, not just your nodding.

Things to try are embarrassingly practical.

Pick three words before you go out and decide they are allowed in the room. Stay. Slower. There. Use them even if you feel self conscious the first time. Self conscious passes. A missed orgasm hangs about.

Try saying it into his ear rather than up at the ceiling. It lands differently. Less of a note from management. More of a secret with instructions attached.

Try putting his name in it if he drifts. Names pull people back into their bodies. So does eye contact, if you can stand it. If you cannot, the hand on the back of his neck will do.

Try directing the pause. Not everything needs more. Some nights need wait. The wait is where a lot of men get itchy. They think stillness is a failure of effort. Teach them that stillness can be the effort.

Try directing after he has finished if you have not. This is where people go shy again, because his timeline has always been treated like the house style. It is not. If you want his mouth, say mouth. If you want his hand, put it there. If you want five quiet minutes and then another go, say that too. Wanting more is not needy. Neediness is the apology you wrap around the wanting. Skip the wrap.

You will get it wrong sometimes. You will say too much. You will laugh. He will go left when you meant the other left. Fine. Sex is not a spelling test. The point is not perfect copy. The point is refusing to be a mystery in your own bed.

I do not think confidence has to sound like a speech. Confidence can sound like a woman in a flat in Essex telling a man to stay where he is because that is the first useful thing he has done in ten minutes. No candle. No essay. No performance of being easygoing. Just taste, said out loud.

The ones who can hear it become better. Not in a project way. In a present way. The ones who cannot will show you quickly. That saves time. Time is underrated when you actually like sex. Life is too short for another night of almost, another polite soundtrack, another man convinced that changing pace is the same as paying attention.

Use ordinary words. Let them be a bit blunt. Let them be a bit funny if that is how your mouth works. Serious does not have to mean solemn. You can laugh and still mean stay. You can be filthy and still be precise. Precision is not the enemy of heat. Guessing is.

    Left. Harder. Slower. There.

Say it. Then see who is actually in the room with you.

  • Demand A Sentence Afterward

Ask for a sentence after. Not a speech. Not a review. One ugly honest line while the room is still warm. That is the whole demand. It sounds small because it is small. Water. A hand. Something that proves he is still in the building now that he has got what the evening was pointing at. If he clocks off the second he comes, say you want him to stay in the room. Then watch.

Watching is the part people skip. They make the request, feel a bit exposed for making it, and then accept whatever shrug arrives as if asking used up their turn. The sentence is the test. What he does with it tells you whether the night was shared or just completed.

Aftercare has been dressed up into something floral and expensive, which is unhelpful. It is not rose petals. It is not a playlist called Sacred Union. It is the ordinary human bit after two people have been a bit ruined together. Bodies do a strange thing at that point. The noise drops. The skin is louder than the mouth. You can feel very close and very droppable in the same minute. A sentence nails the minute to the floor so it does not slide off into the ceiling stare.

Men are often excellent before. That is not a compliment so much as a weather report. Before has a job. Before is pursuit, heat, talk, the performance of being present. After has no obvious prize. After is just you, him, sweat, and the sudden question of whether anyone is still here. A lot of them treat that question like optional coursework.

    So you ask.

You can ask before anything comes off, which is cleaner. You can ask in the doorway of the moment, when he is still capable of language and not yet busy becoming furniture. Something plain. I want you to stay with me after. I want a bit of talk. I do not like the silent exit. If that feels too formal, make it smaller. Do not vanish on me. That will do. The point is not poetry. The point is putting the expectation where he can hear it while he still has an incentive to listen.

You can also ask after, which is messier and sometimes more honest. He has finished. The monk has arrived. You are still in the bed. That is allowed to be inconvenient for him. Hey. Stay here. Say something. I am not looking for a sonnet. I am looking for evidence of life.

Humour helps because the scene is already slightly ridiculous. All that urgency, all that commentary, and then the personality files a timesheet. You are allowed to laugh at it. Laughing does not cancel the seriousness. The seriousness is that silence after sex can make a person feel used even when the sex itself was wanted. Wanted and discarded can sit in the same body. That mix is what turns a good night sour in the last ten minutes.

This is where the double standard still does its little dance. A woman who wants a sentence afterward gets called intense, needy, too much, as if basic hospitality were a marriage proposal. A man who wants sex in the first place is just being a man. Notice how one appetite is treated like weather and the other is treated like a character flaw. Wanting contact after the fact is still wanting. It is not a trap. It is the same night, continuing.

If you have a high drive, people assume you should be easier to leave. As if liking sex means you signed a waiver on the human bit. That is rubbish. Appetite does not cancel standards. You can want him again in an hour and still want him to speak now. Those are not opposites. The apology tour is what turns appetite into a problem. Skip the tour. Keep the standard.

What does a useful sentence sound like? Not much. That was a lot. You all right? Come here. I went a bit quiet, I am still here. Even I need a minute is better than the ceiling, provided the minute includes a hand and not a phone. Useless sentences have a different texture. That was mad. Right, I should head. What time is it? Did you come? The last one deserves its own bin. It is not aftercare. It is quality control with no follow-up department.

A hand counts. Do not pretend it does not. Palm on a back. Fingers in hair. The heavy arm that says the body has not clocked off even if the mouth is slow. Water counts. A laugh counts if it is shared and not the nervous kind that wants the scene to end. What does not count is the stretch that is secretly an exit, the sudden fascination with the window, the lock screen lighting up his face like a little confession.

    Then watch.

If he hears you and stays, even clumsily, that is information. Clumsy can be trained. A man who feels awkward and tries is different from a man who feels awkward and leaves you to manage the awkward alone. If he hears you and jokes it off, watch whether the joke is a bridge or a door. If he hears you and goes tighter, quieter, faintly annoyed that the night has a second act, believe the annoyance. People tell you who they are fastest when the wanting has already been spent.

There is a serious reason this matters beyond pride. Sex drops you into a more open state. Breath, skin, the particular stupidity of having been seen wanting something. In that state, absence lands harder. It is not clinginess. It is the nervous system looking for a cue that the other person did not just extract a result and wander off. You do not need a therapist’s poster to know the difference between being held and being parked.

Some men do not know that. Fine. Not knowing is a starting point. Refusing to learn after you have said it plainly is the actual problem. You are not his school. You are not obliged to deliver a seminar on prolactin and post-nut weather. You can give the short version once. I go a bit raw after. I want you present. If that is too much, say so now. Then stop explaining it like a product feature.

The funny part, and it is funny, is how little it takes. He can manage entire paragraphs when he is trying to get you into bed. He can narrate what he wants to do to you with the confidence of a man reading the specials. Then the special has been served and he becomes a closed kitchen. You are not asking him to become a different species. You are asking him to use the same mouth for one more minute.

There will be the man who says he is just not a talker. Sometimes that is true. The quiet ones who stay physically loyal are not the enemy. Presence has more than one accent. A silent man with his attention still on you is not the same as a silent man shopping inside his own head. You can feel the difference. One is a radiator. The other is a vacated chair that happens to contain a torso.

There will also be the man who gets it immediately because he likes the after too. He wants the stupid remarks, the water, the slow return to being people. Those ones make the rest look even ruder. Not because they are performing sensitivity. Because they understand the night does not end at his finish line.

If you are someone who likes sex, really likes it, this request can feel riskier than the sex itself. Asking for aftercare means admitting the act landed on you. It means you were not just efficient and fun and easy. You were in it. For women who have been called easy, that admission gets tangled up with reputation. Better to seem breezy. Better to reach for your own phone first. Better to be the one who leaves the bed before the quiet can make you look like you needed anything.

That is a good way to collect nights that feel slightly cheap even when the sex was fine.

Demand the sentence anyway. Do it without the little laugh that begs him not to take you seriously. Do it without the essay that makes him feel managed. One line. Then space. Then the watching.

What you are looking for is not perfection. You are looking for whether he can tolerate you existing after he has come. That sounds blunt because it is blunt. Some men want the heat and find the person inconvenient once the heat has done its job. They will still be charming tomorrow. They will still text. The tell was in the ten minutes when charm had no job left.

You can keep seeing someone who fails this. People do. Habit is powerful. The body remembers the good bit and tries to argue on its behalf. Just know what you are keeping. A man who cannot offer a sentence afterward is telling you the terms. You get the event. You do not get the remainder.

If he passes, do not turn it into a project with worksheets. Take the water. Take the hand. Take the ugly line and let the night be ordinary again. Aftercare that becomes a performance is just another way of not being in the room. The point was never to win a prize for communicating. The point was to still be two people after you have been two bodies.

Say it. Stay here. Say something. Then watch what kind of man he is when there is nothing left to get.

  • Casual Still Needs A Standard

Casual has a branding problem. People hear the word and picture a night with the lights half on and the standards half off. No questions. No condom conversation. No sentence afterwards. Just two bodies doing a deal and one of them pretending that wanting the basics makes her intense. It is a lazy reading of a perfectly ordinary arrangement.

Casual means the relationship is not the point. It does not mean the sex gets to be sloppy. It does not mean your body becomes a free sample. It does not mean he can clock off the second he comes and call that chemistry.

Easy is not the same as sloppy. That is the whole article, really. The rest is just the weather around it.

There is a particular man who loves casual because he thinks it is a discount code. Discount on effort. Discount on manners. Discount on staying in the room. He will be chatty when he wants in and vacant when he wants out. He will treat a condom like a mood killer instead of the price of admission. He will say you are cool for not making it weird, which is usually code for please do not ask me to behave like a person.

You can want a clean night and still want him. Those two things are not at war. A clean night looks like this. You both know what this is. Nobody is auditioning for a future that has not been offered. The door is locked or it is not, but someone has thought about the door. There is a condom that did not require a TED Talk. There is a pace that is not copied from a screen. There is a moment after where he does not vanish into the ceiling.

That is not a relationship. That is hospitality.

The double standard sits on this subject like a cat on a laptop. A man can want sex with very little plot and he is hungry. A woman can want the same thing and she is easy. Then, if she has the nerve to want the sex to be good, she is difficult. So the trap is neat. Be available and unfussy, but do not have taste. Be game, but do not have a standard. Be cool, but do not notice when the night is rubbish.

Ignore that paperwork. It was not written for your benefit.

High drive makes this sharper, not simpler. If you actually like sex, you clock the difference between heat and mess very quickly. A body that wants more is not going to be impressed by a man who treats the evening like a task he can half finish. Appetite has a quality control department. People pretend that wanting it a lot means you will take whatever is put in front of you. That is how you end up politely moaning through something you could have ended in four minutes.

Casual sex with no standard is just unpaid work with better lighting.

Start with the unromantic bit, because the unromantic bit is where nights go wrong. Condoms. If he sulks, that is not passion. That is a man bargaining with your future as if it were a vibe. You do not have to give a speech. You do not have to soothe his ego while he tries to turn safety into a compliment he is owed. No condom, no night. The sentence is short on purpose. Long explanations invite debate, and debate is how people get talked out of what they already knew.

If he says it feels better without, he is telling you whose feeling is in charge. Believe him.

Then there is the room. Casual does not require candles and a playlist that took forty minutes. It does require a space that is not actively hostile. A door that closes. A phone that is not face up and hungry. A man who can take his jeans off without keeping one eye on a notification. You would not eat a meal off a bin lid and call it dinner. Do not accept the sexual version of that and call it chill.

Presence is the standard people forget to name. He can be in the bed and still be elsewhere. Hands doing a job. Mouth on autopilot. Mind already on the train home. That is sloppy. Not because every casual night needs a soul bond, but because sex with a person who has left the building feels like being used as a warm prop. You can want no strings and still want him to stay inside his own skin while he is inside the night.

The sentence after matters more than people admit. Not a paragraph. Not a promise. One line that proves the person did not get dressed and leave while the body stayed. Water. A hand. That was a lot. You all right. Even a stupid joke. If he can talk for twenty minutes about what he wants to do to you and then go monastic the second he has done it, he was never generous. He was efficient.

Efficiency is not sexy. It just finishes on time.

There is humour in how obvious some of this becomes once you stop flattering it. The man who calls you easy and then gets fragile when you ask him to slow down. The man who wants filthy and cannot handle a plain instruction. The man who thinks casual means he does not have to aim. Aim at what, exactly. The general area. The idea of a woman. A memory of something that worked on someone else in 2022.

Taste is allowed. Taste is the difference between a night you remember in your body and a night you remember as a story you tell your flatmates with your head in your hands. You can like giving head and still want him to make a noise that is not borrowed. You can like being wanted and still want him to ask before he turns the evening into a remix of whatever he watched when he should have been learning a map.

Things to try are not complicated. They just require a spine.

Say what the night is before the clothes come off. Not a contract. A weather report. This is casual. I still want it to be good. I want a condom. I want you to stay in the room after. If that speech feels too formal, shorten it until it sounds like you. I am not looking for a boyfriend. I am looking for someone who can be here.

Give one instruction early, while you can still form it. Slower. There. Do not change it. Casual is where men get creative at the exact wrong moment because they think variety is personality. Variety is how a working rhythm dies. If he takes direction, the night has a future. If he smiles and ignores you, you have your review.

Keep your own hand in the plot. Casual nights collapse when everything depends on his timing. A toy on the table is not a thesis statement. It is a charger. If he treats it like an insult, he is telling you that your finish is optional. If he gets interested, congratulations. The evening just became less of a charity.

Practice ending it. This is the serious part dressed in ordinary clothes. Starting is not a promise to continue. If it turns grim, if he gets careless, if the mood drops out the bottom, stop. A clean no in a warm room is not a scene. It is maintenance. Manners keep people in beds they should have left. Manners are how sloppy men get second chances they did not earn.

The reputation noise will come anyway. Someone will call it easy because you did not make him wait for a label. Let them. Easy, as an insult, usually means a woman who did not perform scarcity. Scarcity is a pricing strategy. It is not a moral system. You can have a high count and high standards at the same time. The people who cannot hold those two ideas in their head are not your editor.

What you do not owe casual is the apology tour. Sorry I wanted it. Sorry I wanted it to be decent. Sorry I noticed he was rubbish. Sorry I did not turn a mid night into a personality flaw of my own. No. He can be a good time and still fail a very low bar. You can like sex and still walk.

There is a softer standard people skip because it sounds needy. You are allowed to want to feel wanted, even when nobody is falling in love. Casual without want is just logistics. A man can be honest about not staying and still look at you like the next hour matters. If he cannot manage that, he is not honest. He is cheap.

Cheap looks like this. He messages at a time that suits his body and no other clock. He skips the question about what you like because he assumes the answer is him. He treats your place like a venue. He leaves his presence on the floor with his socks. He is shocked, faintly, if you would like him to act as if you are both there.

You do not need to diagnose him. You need to decide whether that is the night you are buying.

Money is a useful metaphor here, and not only because rent exists. Casual is not free. It costs time, sleep, the risk of a boring story, the risk of a bad feeling the next morning, the taxi, the quiet calculation of whether you will respect yourself in the kitchen at 1am. If he is not putting anything on the table except appetite, the deal is uneven. Appetite is easy. Appetite is the bit he arrived with.

Effort, in this context, is not flowers. Effort is attention. Effort is a condom without a sulk. Effort is listening when you say stay there. Effort is not reaching for the phone while you are still in the bed he was so keen to get into. Effort is the difference between being desired and being processed.

The funny bit, once you have lived it enough times, is how little it takes to sort the room. A man who can do the basics feels like a magician. He is not. He is simply not sloppy. He texts when he says he will or he does not pretend he is better than he is. He does not confuse being wanted with being exempt. He can be filthy and still house trained.

House trained is not domesticated. It is the ability to share a night without leaving a mess and calling the mess chemistry.

If you want something to try this week, try raising the floor instead of raising the fantasy. Before you go over, decide the three things that make it a yes. Condom. Presence. A sentence after. That is a standard, not a novel. If he clears it, you can always want more. Another round. A slower mouth. His hands used properly. Feet, if that is your particular stupid miracle. The point is that more sits on top of a floor, not in place of one.

If he fails it, do not hold a seminar on his potential. Potential is how women get stuck in average sex with a man who is very moving in the abstract. Casual is a bad place to do renovation work. You are not his project. He is not your internship.

There will be nights that are messy in the good way. Laughing, teeth, a bit of chaos, the kind of heat that makes the vape on the balcony afterwards feel like a victory lap. Messy can still have a standard. The condom was on. He stayed. Nobody had to perform a relationship to earn basic care. That is the version worth repeating.

The other version is the one that gets defended with words like chill and easy and do not make it weird. Weird, in that sentence, often means do not notice. Do not notice that he left. Do not notice that you did not finish. Do not notice that the night asked more of you than it asked of him.

    Notice.

Wanting a lot does not mean swallowing a lot. You can be game and still have edges. You can like the chase and still like a clean kitchen in the morning. You can have no interest in his five year plan and a very strong interest in whether he can look at you after he comes.

Casual still needs a standard because you are still in the room. Your body is not a loophole. Your night is not a bin. The relationship can be nothing. The effort cannot.

Easy, if it means anything useful, should mean you did not overcomplicate a simple want. It should not mean you lowered the bar until any man who could find a taxi qualified as a good time.

Keep the want. Keep the taste. Let the sloppy ones take their discount code somewhere else.

  • Make Feet Part Of It

People treat feet like a punchline until they are in the room and somebody actually pays attention to them. Then the joke gets very quiet. That is the whole case, really. Not a manifesto. Not a new personality. Just the fact that a pair of feet, handled with a bit of heat and a bit of patience, can take a man apart in a way his favourite position never quite manages. You do not have to join a club. You do not have to buy the vocabulary. You try it once, properly, and you see what happens.

There is a seriousness underneath the giggle. Most sex gets funnelled into the same three postcodes. Mouth. Hands. The obvious main event. Everything else is treated as garnish or a dare. Feet sit in that odd drawer with ears and the back of the knee. People know they are part of a body. People forget they are part of a nervous system. Ignore them and they are just the things that walked you home. Give them time and they become a switch.

The humour writes itself, of course. The second you say feet out loud, somebody does the voice. Somebody mentions a celebrity interview. Somebody decides you have announced a lifestyle. That noise is why a lot of good nights never get as far as a bottle of oil. Shame loves an easy target. Feet are easy. They are also right there at the end of the bed, warm from the shower, doing nothing, while two people recycle the same routine and wonder why it feels a bit samey.

Try it without the identity parade. That is the advice. Do not workshop it in the group chat for a week. Do not issue a press release. Wash them. Warm the room up. Put something slick in your palm. Start as if you are just being thorough.

Hygiene is not a mood killer. It is the difference between sensual and a bit grim. Shower first. Nails tidy enough that nobody is conducting a risk assessment. If you have been in town all day, do not improvise off a pavement foot. The bar is not spa level. The bar is clean, warm, and not a surprise attack with cold toes.

Oil matters more than people think. Lotion sits on the skin. Oil moves. Warm it in your hands so the first contact is not a flinch. Ankles, soles, the line up the tendon. Slow pressure, not a tickle. Tickling makes people laugh and leave their bodies. Pressure keeps them in. Think massage that has wandered off the professional clock. The aim is heat, not comedy.

Watch his face. That is the serious bit. You will know in about thirty seconds whether this is a door or a wall. Some men go still in that particular way that means the brain has stopped making sentences. Some men get shy and then lean in. Some men will politely endure it because they think they should be game, and that is your cue to stop. Game is not the same as wanting. If the body is polite and the breath has not changed, leave it. Curiosity should not steamroll a no that is wearing a smile.

When it works, it works because it is attention. That is the unsexy truth under the sexy one. A lot of men spend their lives being touched in the same functional ways. Handshake. Hug. The rush to the parts that count on paper. Feet are not supposed to matter, so when they suddenly do, the contrast is filthy. You are lingering where the script says linger is unnecessary. Unnecessary is often where people come undone.

There is a version of this that stays at massage and never needs a new noun. Oil, thumbs, the slow drag along the arch, a mouth at the ankle if that feels natural. You can keep it there all night and still have changed the temperature of the room. There is another version that turns into a footjob because the geometry is obvious and his brain has already arrived. Both are allowed. Neither requires you to become a person who only talks about feet now.

If it does go further, keep the same rules you would keep with your hands. Pace. Grip. Oil so nothing drags. Eyes up enough to catch whether he is with you or performing enjoyment. The mistake is to treat it like a trick you saw described once and then rush the ending. The point is the slowness. The point is that you are not in a hurry to graduate to something more respectable. Respectable is how nights get boring.

A lot of women hesitate because they think liking this, or being good at it, says something large about them. It does not. It says you noticed a part of him that still had feeling in it. High drive does not mean you have to stick to the official menu. It means you can afford to be picky and still be experimental. Those two things are supposed to be opposites. They are not. Taste includes trying the side dish.

The double standard turns up here too, because of course it does. A man can mutter about legs and arches and the way a heel looks and it is just being a man. A woman who takes that seriously and does something competent with it gets filed under too much, too game, too specific. Let them file. Specific is how you get decent sex. Vague is how you get the same twenty minutes on a loop.

There is also the simple fact that feet are honest. You cannot really fake interest with them the way people fake interest with a moan. If you are disgusted, it shows. If you are curious, that shows too. So check yourself before you offer it as a performance. Doing it to be impressive is a fast way to feel resentful. Doing it because the slowness suits you, because you like the look of him going quiet for a useful reason, that is a different night.

Quiet is relevant. Some men talk too much on the way in and vanish after they come. This is one of the rare things that can shut them up in the middle, which is a public service. Not silenced like punished. Silenced like the commentary became unnecessary. You will hear the breath change. You will feel the foot flex and then give up the flex. That is the tell. Stay with what produced it. Do not get creative for the sake of looking advanced.

Practical notes, because advice that stays poetic is just vibes.

Sit where you can be comfortable for a while. Twisting yourself into a shape that looks good in theory and kills your back in practice is how experiments die. A bed is fine. A sofa is fine. A chair with him sitting and you lower can be easier on everyone. Pillows exist. Use them.

Keep a towel nearby. Oil goes where oil wants. This is not elegant. It is also not a disaster unless you have silk sheets and a personality that cannot survive a stain. Put a towel down and carry on.

Talk only as much as the room needs. A little direction is useful. Harder. Slower. There. A running documentary is not. He does not need the concept explained while you are in it. If you want to check consent, check it in ordinary language. Is this good. Do you want me to keep going. Then listen to the answer, not the answer you hoped for.

If he laughs at first, that is not automatically a no. People laugh when they are nervous and when something has been turned into a meme. Give it a minute of actual pressure. If the laugh stays and the body never drops into it, stop and move on without making a case. Nothing kills heat like a closing argument.

If you hate it, that is also data. You are allowed to try a thing and decide it is not for you. Wanting a full sex life does not mean every corridor has to be walked to the end. The point of this category is appetite with standards. Standards include no.

There is a tenderness in it that people skip because tenderness sounds like the wrong genre. Holding a foot is oddly intimate. It is care with a filthy edge. You are handling the part of him that hits the pavement and the office floor and the last train. You are saying that even this counts. For someone who is used to being wanted in fragments, that can land harder than a speech.

It can land for you too. Being the one who sets the pace, who chooses the overlooked thing, who does not wait to be directed, changes the balance of the room. A lot of women are trained to receive the night as it arrives. Trying this is a small way of running it. Not as a power game. As taste.

You do not need candles unless you like candles. You do not need a playlist unless silence makes you self conscious. You need clean skin, warm hands, enough oil, and the willingness to look a bit ridiculous for the first ninety seconds. Most good sex has a ridiculous corridor. People pretend otherwise and then wonder why everything feels choreographed.

Afterwards, do not turn it into a debrief unless he wants one. The worst thing you can do to a new thing that worked is immediately demand it explain itself. Have a glass of water. Stay in the bed. If he has gone quiet in the useful way, leave him there. If he has gone quiet in the vanished way, that is a separate article and a separate problem.

And if it did not work, fine. You washed your feet and gave a massage. There are worse ways to spend twenty minutes. The experiment still did its job. You found a wall, or you found a door. Either one is better than recycling the official menu because you were afraid of being the woman who mentioned feet.

Desire as a personality trait looks like this in practice. Not a speech about liberation. A bottle of oil and the nerve to use it without apologising for the joke. Let them laugh in the abstract. In the room, with the pressure right and the pace slow, the joke tends to run out of material.

Try it once. Do it properly. See what happens.

  • Use Your Mouth On Purpose

Use your mouth because you want to. That is the whole article, really. The rest is just the long way round. Oral has been lumbered with a job it cannot do. It gets treated like rent. Like a nice gesture. Like the thing you offer so he knows you are generous, game, not one of those women. The minute it becomes a favour, the night changes temperature. You can feel it in the room. He can feel it too, even if he is too polite or too hopeful to say so.

A bored mouth is obvious. There is no elegant way around that. The jaw does the work and the rest of you clocks off. You go tidy and competent and slightly elsewhere. Hands rest like they are waiting for a bus. Breath gets dutiful. The pace turns into something you could set a washing machine to. He may still make the noises. Bodies are suggestible. That does not mean the scene is good. It means he has noticed movement and decided not to inspect the quality of it too closely.

Wanting is different. Wanting has a weight to it. You get closer because you like being that close. You pay attention because the attention is part of the heat, not a chore list you are ticking so nobody can accuse you of being selfish. You use your hands because your hands want in. You slow down because slowing down feels filthy, not because a video told you to count to eight.

This is the serious bit, so I will say it plainly. You do not owe anyone your mouth. Starting the night does not mean you have signed over the whole menu. Fancying him does not mean you have to perform hunger you do not feel. A reputation for being good in bed is a stupid reason to do anything with your face. People will call you easy for having sex and cold for having standards. Let them file their paperwork. Your mouth is not a public service.

The humour sits right next to that, because the performance version is funny once you stop being polite about it. Technique theatre. The sudden documentary concentration. The man who puts a hand on the back of your head like he has seen that done and would now like it done to him, as if pressure were personality. The woman who is clearly thinking about emails. The wet sound with no pulse behind it. Everyone pretending this is chemistry when it is mostly manners.

Manners ruin sex. They really do.

If you like doing it, do it like you like doing it. That sounds simple until you watch how often people hide inside competence. Competence is useful. It is also a brilliant place to conceal the fact that you are not actually in the room. You can be skilled and absent at the same time. You can know what goes where and still be giving the sexual equivalent of a firm handshake.

Enthusiasm beats that. Not the cartoon kind. Not the soundtrack. The ordinary kind, where you are interested. Where you notice what makes his breath catch and stay with that instead of moving on because you have a sequence to get through. Where you look up because you want to see the face, not because eye contact is a tip you read once and filed under advanced.

Things to try, if you actually want the night.

Get comfortable first. Knees, pillows, a position you can hold without turning it into a plank. Pain makes people rush. Rushing makes people theatrical. If your neck is already complaining, the scene is already lying.

Use your hand. A mouth on its own is a lot of pressure and not much steering. A hand gives you control of pace and keeps you from turning the whole thing into an endurance event. It also means you can pause without the pause feeling like a verdict.

Slow is not virtuous. Slow is just easier to feel. Most people go fast because fast looks like effort. Fast is also how you stop noticing anything. Find the pace that makes him go quiet in the good way, then stay there. If he starts directing you like traffic, you can listen or you can ignore him. Listening is useful when he is telling the truth. Ignoring him is useful when he is reciting porn.

Noise from you can be real or it can be set dressing. If you are going to make a sound, let it be the one that happens anyway. The fake moan during oral is a special kind of unconvincing. It has a brightness to it. It is doing customer service.

Pay attention to whether you are aroused. That is the tell. If your body is in it, the mouth usually follows. If your body has left the building, you are performing. You can keep going. Adults do all sorts of things they are only half in. Just do not dress that up as generosity and then feel obscurely resentful at 1am. Resentment is a terrible aftertaste.

There is a version of this advice that turns into a sermon about female labour, and I am not unsympathetic to the sermon. Plenty of nights are lopsided. Plenty of men receive oral like a birthright and give it like a timed exam they would rather postpone. That imbalance is real. It is also not fixed by you doing a better job of a thing you did not want to do. Excellence in a favour still leaves you the person who did the favour.

Reciprocity is a separate conversation. Have it. Have it before the clothes are a pile, if you can stand the awkwardness. “I like this” is a useful sentence. “I want this back” is another. “Not tonight” is a complete one. You would be amazed how many adults treat a closed mouth as a puzzle rather than an answer.

If you are on the receiving end, the same rule applies in reverse. Use your actual responses. Do not award marks for effort if the effort is landing in the wrong postcode. A polite good girl script trains him to keep missing. A hand in his hair that means stay is clearer than poetry. So is a shift of your hips. So is “left” and “slower” and “that, don’t get creative.” Men take silence as a pass. They take theatre as a pass too. What they cannot ignore is direction delivered like you mean to be there at the end of it.

The double standard hangs over all of this like cheap perfume. A man who likes using his mouth gets called generous. A woman who likes using hers gets a nickname and a story that travels. That is ugly and it is old and it will not be solved in a blog post. What you can do is refuse the apology tour. Like what you like. Decline what you do not. Be good at the nights you actually want. Be average, even blunt, about the ones you do not.

High drive complicates the picture in a way people do not talk about cleanly. When you want sex a lot, it is tempting to treat every act as proof that you are the kind of woman who says yes. Appetite gets confused with availability. You can want a body in the room and still not want that particular job tonight. You can be filthy and still have a no. Those are not opposite traits. They are the same adult.

I think the fear underneath duty oral is the fear of being seen as less. Less game. Less easy. Less the girl who makes the night simple. So the mouth goes to work and the self waits outside. That bargain only holds until you notice you are keeping score. Then the sex starts to feel like admin with better lighting.

Do it on purpose or do not do it. Purpose looks like this. You chose it. You can stop it. You are allowed to be into the specific mess of it, the taste, the heat, the way a person comes apart when they are being paid attention to. You are allowed to find that hot for its own sake, not as a down payment on being wanted later.

If you do not like it, there is no moral prize for forcing a talent. Hands exist. Toys exist. Positions exist. Leaving exists. A night can be good without a scene you resent. People survive.

If you do like it, let that be visible. Not as a performance of being sexually unshockable. As presence. Get closer than you need to. Take your time when time is the filthy part. Stop when your jaw says stop, then come back if you want to, not because the scene feels unfinished on his side. His timeline is not the house style.

The men who go quiet in the good way, the ones whose commentary falls apart, they are responding to attention with a pulse in it. The men who put a hand on your head and stare at the ceiling like they are waiting for a bus are often responding to movement. Learn the difference. It will save you hours.

And if you catch yourself doing the tidy, competent, slightly absent version, you can stop mid-sentence. That is allowed too. Sit up. Drink water. Say you are done with that part. The room will survive the honesty. If it cannot, the room was never that interested in you. It was interested in the service.

Use your mouth on purpose. Wanting is the point. Everything else is just choreography people hide inside when they are afraid to admit they are not hungry.

  • Keep The Clit In The Room

It vanishes at the exact moment the night is supposed to get better. He has found it. He has paid it a respectable amount of attention. There has been a warm-up that almost looked like he read a paragraph of something once. Then he is inside, the whole room rearranges itself around that fact, and the useful part of the evening is treated like the supporting act who can leave the stage now the headliner has arrived.

Penetration is not the whole plot. It can be filthy and close and exactly what a body wants. It can also be the point where a lot of men decide the thinking is over. Fingers gone. Mouth gone. The quiet little engine that was actually doing the work abandoned mid-shift, as if it had clocked out the second something else clocked in.

This is not a mystery of the universe. It is a habit. A widely shared, deeply unimaginative habit.

Most women do not finish from penetration alone. That is not a personality. That is plumbing. The clitoris is not a polite extra. It is packed with nerve endings and it sits where it sits for a reason. Plenty of people still treat it like garnish. A bit of effort at the start, then the real business, then a hopeful face at the end as if hope were a technique.

The joke writes itself and then stops being funny. Because the body is still there, still mid-sentence, still waiting for the thing that was working to continue. And he is now doing the one move he thinks counts as sex, with the concentration of a man assembling furniture from a picture only he can see.

There is a version of this that is almost sweet if you squint. He thinks he has arrived. He thinks arrival is the point. In his head the evening had two chapters. Chapter one: be generous. Chapter two: have sex. He does not notice that chapter one was the sex, or at least the part the body had voted for. He has confused a change of position with a promotion.

Porn does not help. On a screen, the clitoris is often a cameo. A few seconds of vague rubbing, then the camera finds a more cinematic angle, then everyone performs a finish that would not survive contact with an actual nervous system. Live bodies are less obedient. Live bodies need a steady thing to stay in the room.

Rhythm matters more than theatre. A lot of men can find the right spot and then immediately improve it to death. Faster. Harder. A new angle, a new idea, a little remix as if the last thirty seconds were a demo track. The body does not want a remix. The body wants the thing that was working to keep being the thing that was working.

So keep it in the room.

That can mean his hand. That can mean your hand. That can mean a mouth before and a hand during. That can mean a small toy that does not require a speech or a personality change from anyone involved. The method is less important than the refusal to let the useful part of the night get fired for no reason.

Start polite. Polite still works on people who are paying attention.

Stay on that. Do not move your hand. I need that while you are inside. Keep going exactly like that.

Ordinary sentences. No poetry. No long explanation of female anatomy while everyone is busy. If he is any good, he will treat that like information. If he is average, he will nod, do it for eight seconds, then forget because his brain has only one tab open and the tab is himself.

    Then be less polite.

Put your own hand there. Guide his. Move his hips and keep your fingers where they were. Say it again without the soft edges. If you stop that I am going to lose it, and not in the way you are hoping.

A lot of women have been trained to protect the mood at the cost of the ending. The mood can take a direct sentence. What the mood cannot take, not for long, is a person disappearing inside their own performance while the other person quietly negotiates with disappointment.

There is no prize for being easy to finish in the most inconvenient way possible. There is no moral virtue in pretending penetration should be enough because that is the story people were sold. If your body wants contact on the outside while something is happening on the inside, that is not greed. That is design.

The double standard still hangs around this like cheap aftershave. A man can need friction, heat, a grip, a particular speed, a particular view, and that is just how men are. A woman needs the most famous piece of her own anatomy to stay involved and suddenly it is complicated, or demanding, or a bit much to ask in the moment. It is not a bit much. It is the bare minimum dressed up as a favour.

Wanting sex and wanting it to work are the same instinct. High drive does not mean grateful for whatever is offered. High drive means you notice when the night gets sloppy. You notice when he was doing something intelligent and then swapped it for the default setting. You notice the exact second the room got less interesting.

    So treat it like taste.

If you like being on top, use it. That is often the easiest way to keep a hand where it belongs without turning the bed into a planning meeting. If you like being underneath, plant his hand and hold it there like you mean it. If he is behind you, a toy is not a comment on his ability. It is infrastructure. If he takes that as an insult, he is telling you something about his ego that his mouth will not admit.

Oral does not have to be the opening ceremony that ends when the credits of the first act roll. It can come back. Mouth, then body, then hand, then mouth again. Sex is allowed to have a plot that returns to the good bit. The idea that there is a correct order, and that the correct order ends in one shape only, is how a lot of average nights get made.

Your own hand is not a consolation prize. It is not what you do when he has failed and you are being discreet about it. It is part of the scene. Some men get weird about that, as if your pleasure becoming efficient makes them less central. Let them be briefly weird. Then keep going. A man who can stay present while you take care of the part he was about to forget is usually a man worth keeping in the bed. A man who needs the whole operation to run through him or not at all is a narrower evening.

There is a serious point under the jokes. A lot of people grow up learning the names for everything except the thing that would have made the rest of it make sense. They learn about intercourse as the definition. They learn about male orgasm as the full stop. They learn about female orgasm as a nice surprise if the schedule allows. Then they get into beds and repeat the lesson without noticing they are repeating it.

That lesson makes women good at performing. A well timed sound. A generous bit of theatre. The small lie that keeps his confidence intact and the night moving toward a close. It also trains both people to stop looking at what is actually happening. He thinks it worked because the room made the right noises. She thinks it is simpler not to stop the machine and recalibrate.

    Recalibrate.

If it is disappearing, put it back. If he loses the spot, put him back on the spot. If his timing is a lottery, take timing off the table and use something with a motor. None of that is unromantic. Romance that cannot survive a practical adjustment was never very sturdy.

Be blunt about the finish as well. His coming is not the bell. If the useful contact stopped two minutes earlier, the night did not complete just because he did. You can say you are not done. You can keep your hand where it is. You can tell him to stay still and not turn the last good minute into a victory lap. A lot of them speed up at the end like the point is to escape the scene successfully. Escape is not the point.

Afterward matters too, because this habit often comes as a set. He drops the clitoris when he enters. He drops the conversation when he finishes. The same attention problem in two outfits. If you want a standard, apply it to both. Stay on that. Stay in the room. Do not clock off the second you have got what you came for.

None of this requires a seminar. It requires the refusal to treat your own body like an optional extra in an event happening to you.

Try it in small, unfancy ways. One night, do not let his hand leave once it has found something that works. One night, keep a toy within reach and use it without the disclaimer. One night, say the sentence before anyone is naked, when everyone can still hear it. I need that the whole time, not as a warm-up. Watch what he does with information when it is not competing with his pulse.

Some men take it well because they like competence. Some take it well because they like you enough to be taught without sulking. Some look faintly panicked, as if the plot they brought with them has been edited. That panic is useful. It tells you whether he wants a body in the bed or an audience.

The clitoris is not a fragile secret. It does not need candlelight and a password. It needs to not be forgotten the second the night looks like the picture in his head. Keep it involved. Keep it current. Keep it from being treated like the interval instead of the show.

Penetration can stay. It can be the close, filthy, breathless part. It just does not get to sack the rest of the cast.

If it disappears, put it back. Politely. Then less politely. Then with your own hand, which has never once needed a map and a pep talk to remember where it lives.

  • Ask For The Exact Pace

It is working. That is the first thing to notice, because the window is short and most men treat it like a suggestion rather than a destination. The angle is right. The pressure is right. The speed has finally stopped being a drum solo. Something in the body starts to gather instead of just endure. There is that small, stupid hope that this time the evening will actually arrive somewhere.

    Then he changes it.

A little faster. A new angle he saw in a film. A sudden heroic thrust as if variety were a personality. The gathering falls apart. The moment that was building has to start again from a colder place, if it starts at all. He looks pleased with himself. He thinks he has just made it better.

    He has not.

Ask for the exact pace. Slower. Steadier. Do not change it. Say it while there is still a chance of being heard. Directing the rhythm is not bossy. It is how bodies actually finish.

This is the unglamorous secret sitting under a lot of average sex. Plenty of men can get hard, get in, and look busy. Fewer can stay with one useful thing long enough for it to count. They remix the minute that was working because they have been taught that skill looks like movement. Stillness looks like they have run out of ideas. A steady pace looks like they are not trying. So they try. They try the night to death.

It would be funnier if it were rarer. It is not rare. It is the standard plot twist. You get a good thirty seconds of something your body recognises, then he invents a sequel nobody asked for.

There is a serious reason this matters and it is not about being fussy. A lot of female orgasm is repetition with the right pressure. Not fireworks. Not a world tour of positions. The same signal, again and again, until the nervous system agrees to go over the edge. Change the tempo and you reset the count. Change the angle and you move off the spot that was doing the job. He experiences novelty as excitement. The body under him often experiences it as starting over.

That gap is where a lot of polite moaning is born. The night is fine. The night is even hot. The night does not finish. He asks if it was good. The answer becomes a kind of public relations.

Humour first, because the image is ridiculous. He finds the combination lock and then immediately starts spinning it again for fun. He is a DJ who cannot leave a good track alone. He is a cook who keeps opening the oven to improve the cake. He is convinced that more effort equals more pleasure, which is how you get a man sweating beautifully while the useful part of the evening leaves the building.

Then the serious bit, because it is not only a joke.

If you never say the pace out loud, he will keep writing the scene for a body he does not live in. He will assume that what feels intense to him feels intense to you. He will assume that faster is a compliment. He will assume that changing it shows range. None of that is cruel on its own. It is just uninformed. Uninformed sex can still be warm. It is also how people spend years thinking they are difficult to finish when they are mostly being conducted by someone who will not hold a note.

    Asking is the correction.

Not a speech. Not a seminar on anatomy. A sentence in the room while the room still has heat in it.

    Slower.

    Stay there.

    That speed.

    Do not change it.

Ordinary words. Said like you mean them. The voice can be soft. The instruction should not be. Soft and vague is how you get a nod and then the same remix thirty seconds later. Soft and exact is different. Exact gives him something to obey that is not a mood.

A lot of women have been trained to hear their own direction as a threat to his confidence. The word bossy gets in the bed before anyone has even taken a sock off. Wanting a steady pace becomes wanting too much. Saying stay there becomes criticising his performance. So the sentence stays in the throat and the body tries to finish on a moving target.

That training is not your friend. His ego is not more delicate than your nervous system. If one clear instruction can bruise him, the problem is not the instruction.

There is a way to say it that still sounds like sex rather than a road sign. You do not need to become a foreman. You can put the line inside the heat. Right there. Keep that. Do not you dare speed up. Even a laugh in it helps, if the laugh is not an apology. What does not help is wrapping the need in so much sweetness that he cannot tell it is a need.

Timing matters. The worst moment to invent communication is after he has already gone off-road and the thing has gone. The better moment is the second you feel the gather. Catch it early. Praise the thing that is working, then lock it. That is good. Stay on that. People listen better to a lock when it arrives with a compliment. They also listen when the voice gets sharper. Both are allowed. Use whichever one the night requires.

Exact pace also means exact pressure and exact place, even if the title does not say so. Pace is the obvious culprit because it is the thing he loves to play with. Pressure is the quiet one. Too light and the body chases. Too heavy and the body flinches. Place is the one he loses when he gets excited and starts performing for an audience of himself. If the useful contact was slightly higher, slightly to the side, slightly less inside and more against, say that too. The body is not a mystery novel. It is a map. Maps work when someone stops driving in circles.

Hands help. So does a toy. So does your own fingers staying where they were when he arrived. There is a stubborn little idea that if the sex is good enough, the clit will come along out of loyalty. It will not. If the pace you need is a steady rub with something that does not wander off, then keep that in the scene. Put his hand there and tell it the speed. Put yours there and tell him not to knock it away because he wants a prettier picture. The picture is not the point.

Men who take direction well are rare enough to feel like a personality type. They do not crumble. They do not make it about their talent. They adjust and watch. That watching is sexier than the remix. A man who can hold a pace because he was asked is paying attention. Attention is the actual skill. The rest is cardio.

Men who cannot take it will tell on themselves quickly. They will speed up anyway. They will laugh it off. They will say they know, then prove they do not. They will look faintly injured, as if the request were a review posted in public. That is useful information. You can work with a clumsy man who listens. You cannot work with a confident man who treats your body like a suggestion box he does not read.

This is where the wanting comes in, the unapologetic kind. If you actually like sex, rubbish pacing offends you. Not in a tragic way. In a taste way. You can be hungry and still refuse a badly cooked meal. High drive does not mean you should be grateful for motion. It means you know the difference between heat and a result. Ask for the result.

There is a practical drill worth doing when the night is friendly enough for drills. Pick one speed. Count it in your head. Keep him there for longer than he finds interesting. Longer than the porn cut. Longer than his instinct to improve it. A lot of bodies do not go over at the exciting bit. They go over at the boring bit after the exciting bit, when the signal has been the same for long enough to become inevitable. He may feel like nothing is happening. Something is happening. It is just not theatrical.

If talking feels awkward the first time, script it before anyone is naked. Not a contract. A line you already own so you do not have to invent language with a mouth on your neck. I need it steady or I lose it. If you change it I have to start again. That is not romance novel talk. It is operating instructions. Operating instructions are allowed to be unpretty.

The double standard still hangs around this. A man who says harder is taken as passionate. A woman who says slower is taken as directing the scene. Same act. Different paperwork. Ignore the paperwork. The scene needs a director if the other person is improvising himself into a corner.

None of this requires cruelty. You can like him and still correct him. You can want him and still refuse the remix. You can be easy in the old insulting sense, meaning you actually want the night, and still have standards for how the night is run. Those things sit together. The apology tour is what pretends they cannot.

If he gets there and you do not, the pace conversation is not over. His finish is not the bell. Say it then as well. Keep that speed. I am close. Do not you go changing it now. A surprising number of men hear close as a cue to panic-sprint. Panic-sprint is how close becomes not close. Hold him to the thing that got you there. If his body is done, hands and mouth and a toy can keep the same pace without his hips writing a new plot. The evening ends when the evening ends.

There will be nights when you do not want to teach. Fair. Teaching is labour. Some men are a short fling and not a project. In those cases the sentence is still useful, even if you only give it one chance. Slower. Stay. If he cannot, you have your answer early enough to stop spending good heat on a moving target.

The laugh in all this is that the advice is almost insultingly small. Not a new identity. Not a wardrobe of tricks. Not a spiritual awakening about feminine energy. A tempo. Held. On purpose.

The seriousness is that years of sex get wasted on the opposite habit. People call themselves complicated. People decide they need more chemistry, more feelings, more time. Sometimes they do. Sometimes they needed a man to stop treating a working rhythm like a first draft.

Say the pace. Make him stay in it. If he can, the night changes shape. If he cannot, the night has told you the truth with very little poetry at all.

  • Make Him Watch You Come

The polite version is a very good actress. It knows when to breathe out. It knows which face to borrow. It knows how to keep the peace in a room where a man is trying, and trying is supposed to be enough, and enough is a word that has ruined more nights than outright selfishness ever did.

The useful version is less photogenic. It is a hand in the right place for longer than looks elegant. It is a small, unglamorous movement that would never make a trailer. It is the face a person actually makes when something is working, which is rarely the face they practised in case anyone was watching.

That is the point. Make him watch the useful version.

Not as a test. Not as a performance review with better lighting. As information. Men copy what they are shown. Show him the wrong film often enough and he will learn it by heart. He will become fluent in a version of you that was designed to protect his feelings and starve yours.

This is where the humour sits, because the situation is faintly absurd. Two adults, naked, supposedly after the same outcome, and one of them is still working from a manual the other one wrote in invisible ink. He is looking. He thinks he is looking. What he is looking at is the edited cut. Then he wonders, later, in that baffled male way, why the same moves do not land twice.

Of course they do not. He rehearsed the understudy.

There is a serious reason women do this, and it is not mystery or complexity or some poetic inability to know what they like. It is manners with a body attached. It is the old habit of making the room comfortable. He is keen. He is proud. He has that hopeful expression men get when they think they are close to being good at something. Interrupting feels cruel. Redirecting feels like criticism. Coming quietly, or almost, or not at all and making a noise anyway, feels like kindness.

It is not kindness. It is training.

Bodies are not mind readers. They are copycats with good intentions. If the thing that actually works is a slower grind against his thigh, and the thing he sees is back-arching theatre, he will keep offering theatre. If the thing that works is your own hand with his mouth somewhere less ambitious, and he never sees the hand, he will keep treating the hand like a last resort. If the thing that works is staying exactly still for twenty more seconds, and you move because stillness looks boring, he will learn that motion is the goal.

He cannot steal a method you will not put on the table.

Watching, here, does not mean turning the night into a show with an audience and a spotlight. It means letting the mechanics be visible. Eyes open. Body unhidden. Less folding in on yourself at the exact moment the information would be useful. If you need a hand, use the hand where he can see what it is doing. If you need pressure more than thrusting, take that pressure and do not apologise for how unspectacular it looks. If you need him lower, slower, quieter, put him there and let him clock the result.

The result is the teacher. Not the speech.

People get shy about this because coming is supposed to be private even when it is happening two inches from someone else’s mouth. There is a flinch in being seen wanting something specific. Specific is exposing. Specific says this is not generic pleasure, this is my particular wiring, please do not laugh at the circuit. So the polite version arrives to blur the details. A general moan. A general movement. A general finish that could belong to anyone.

General is how you end up with a man who is technically present and practically lost.

The funny part is how eager most of them are once the fog lifts. Not all. Some get sulky, because being shown a better method implies the old one was a bit rubbish, and rubbish is a word their ego files under attack. Those ones will tell on themselves quickly. A good look at that reaction is useful too. If he treats accurate information like an insult, the problem is not your timing.

The better ones go quiet in a different way. Concentrating quiet. The face of a man being handed the answer sheet. It is not glamorous. It is slightly comic. He looks like he is assembling a shelf and has just been told the leftover screw was load bearing. Then he tries again, closer to the actual instructions, and the night improves because reality was allowed in the room.

There is a practical way to do this that does not require a seminar.

Start before anyone is close. If you already know what tends to work, do not save it for the emergency ending. Bring it in while the mood is still generous. His hand over yours. Yours over his. A bit of, like this, held there, not as a lecture, as a demonstration. The body understands demonstration faster than it understands paragraphs.

If you come more easily from a toy, the toy belongs in the scene as a fact, not as a verdict on him. Let him see where you put it. Let him see the angle. Let him keep doing whatever he is doing that helps. Men get strange about toys when the toy appears like a substitute teacher after they have already failed the lesson. They get less strange when it is just part of the kit.

If you come more easily from your own hand, same rule. Do not smuggle it in under the duvet like contraband. He can hold you. He can kiss you. He can stay inside that closeness and still watch the part that works. A lot of them find that hotter than they expected, because wanting is contagious when it is obvious. What they cannot copy is the thing they were never allowed to observe.

Pace matters here more than invention. The useful version often looks repetitive. Same small movement. Same pressure. Same ugly little rhythm that would bore an audience and delight a nervous system. This is where men go wrong even when they are trying. They see repetition and assume the scene needs a twist. They add speed. They change angle. They introduce a move they saw somewhere else, as if variety were the same thing as skill.

If he is watching the real thing, he gets to see that the twist is the enemy. Stay. That one word does more than a speech about anatomy. Stay, and then let him see why.

There is a balance to strike with the face as well. You do not owe anyone a porn expression. You also do not have to hide in the pillow if hiding is how the details get lost. Looking at him is optional. Letting him look at you is the point. There is a difference. One is performance. The other is evidence.

Evidence is what changes the next time, and the time after that. One night of honesty is a good evening. Repeated honesty becomes a habit in him. He starts reaching for the thing that worked instead of the thing that looked like it should. That is how a sex life gets quietly better without anyone having to hold a meeting about it.

The serious cost of not doing this is not just missed orgasms, though that bill adds up. It is the slow training of both people. You get used to disappearing at the important moment. He gets used to guessing. The night becomes a polite negotiation with a fake ending, and then someone calls it fine, and fine is a miserable standard for something that is supposed to feel like heat and relief and a bit of filth.

There is also the lie that talking should be enough. Talking helps. Talking is how you get the toy out of the drawer without a drumroll. Talking is how you stop him mid-wrong-move before it becomes a theme. But a lot of useful sex information is physical. It lives in timing and pressure and the exact place a breath changes. He can hear “a bit higher” and still miss it by an inch. He is less likely to miss it if he sees the inch.

Does this feel vulnerable? Yes. That is not a reason to avoid it. It is the reason it works. You are letting another person see the unedited circuit. If the relationship, or the night, cannot survive that, it was already a thin arrangement. Better to find that out while someone is still paying attention.

The joke, if you need one to get through the first awkward attempt, is that men have been watching the wrong film for years and then calling themselves experienced. Experience in what? In a version of women who were trying not to cause offence. Of course the technique is weird. Of course the tempo is off. Of course he thinks the loud part is the important part. That is what the polite version taught him.

Show him the quieter mechanics. The hand that does not look cinematic. The grind that would never trend. The face that is busy with an actual sensation instead of an implied one. If he laughs in the cruel way, that is data. If he pays attention, that is the start of him being good rather than keen.

Keen is common. Good is copywork done from the right original.

Afterward, do not turn it into a debrief unless he asks or the night needs a single clear note. The demonstration already said it. Water. A hand. The ordinary after. Let the information sit in his body overnight. The ones worth keeping will come back to the useful version without being invited to a seminar.

The ones who preferred the actress will miss her. Let them. She was doing unpaid work.

Make him watch you come. Not because he is owed a show. Because he is standing there trying to learn a language and you keep mouthing a different one to be polite. Stop translating yourself into something easier to handle. Give him the actual sentence. Then see whether he can read.

  • Eye Contact Without The Interview

Looking is the part nobody practises.

They practise positions. They practise the line they think sounds filthy. They practise the face they make when they think they are being watched. Actual looking, the ordinary kind, gets left to chance. Then the lights are low and someone is close enough to count eyelashes and the whole thing turns into either a disappearing act or a panel interview.

Looking at him is hot. That part is simple. Faces do work that hands cannot. A glance that says I am here and I can see you doing that is worth more than a speech. The trouble starts when the glance clocks in for a full shift and refuses to blink.

There is a version of eye contact during sex that feels like presence. Soft. A bit filthy. Occasional. It arrives, it lands, it leaves room for the rest of the body to keep doing its job. Then there is the other version. Locked on. Unblinking. Chin slightly set, as if he is about to be asked about his five year plan. That one kills a room faster than a cramp.

The interview stare has a particular weather to it. Too much intention. Too little heat. It is the look people use when they have been told eye contact is sexy and have decided to complete the module with honours. They hold it like a plank. They wait to be marked. Nothing behind the eyes except effort. You can almost hear the self talk. Stay on the face. Do not look at the wall. This is what confident people do.

Confidence is not a staring contest.

The opposite error is just as loud. Eyes shut the entire time, or fixed on a pillow, or busy with a spot on the ceiling that has never once asked to be involved. That can be shyness. It can be concentration. It can also be a man who would like the benefit of being wanted without the inconvenience of being seen wanting. There is a difference between sinking into a feeling and hiding inside it. One has a pulse. The other is a vanishing trick.

Most nights sit in the messy middle. A look, then away. A look when it gets good. A look that breaks because somebody laughed or somebody bit their own lip or the angle got awkward and there was a knee in a stupid place. That middle is the usable one. It has air in it.

People get strange about faces because faces are where the performance leaks. A body can bluff. A mouth can copy a noise. Eyes are worse at lying. They show the bit where he is actually in it, or the bit where he has started thinking about whether he looks like he knows what he is doing. That second one is contagious. The second you catch him watching himself through you, the night gets a bit colder.

Porn does not help. On a screen, the look is a product. Long, hard, aimed at the lens. It is designed for a third person who is not in the bed. Bring that into a real room and it feels like being used as proof. Not touched. Documented. There is a reason it lands like an interview. Someone is trying to demonstrate competence to a committee that does not exist.

The serious part, the part that is not a joke about job panels, is that being looked at during sex is a kind of exposure people underestimate. Clothes are easy. Skin is easy enough once the decision has been made. The face is the last private thing. Some people can do every filthy act in the catalogue and still flinch at a proper look because a look says I am not just using you. I am with you. That is a heavier sentence than it sounds.

So the advice is not more eye contact. It is better weather.

Start before anyone is undressed. If he cannot meet a glance on the sofa without turning it into a bit, he will not magically acquire softness later. The early look is smaller. It sits inside a kiss. It happens when a jumper comes off and nobody has decided yet whether this is definitely happening. That is the practice pitch. Low stakes. Still honest.

In the bed itself, think of it as punctuation, not paragraph. A look when you want him to know you like what he is doing. A look when you take him in your mouth and you are not doing it as a favour. A look when he gets close and starts disappearing into his own urgency. Then let it go. Look at his mouth. Look at his throat. Look at the place where your hands are. The face does not need to carry the whole night.

Oral is where people lose their minds about this. Someone asked, years ago, in that half embarrassed way the internet loves, whether eye contact during that actually matters. The honest answer is yes, until it becomes a stare. A flicker up is filthy. It says I know what this looks like and I am still here. Holding it like a threat assessment is how you turn a good idea into a performance review. He does not need to be studied. He needs to feel chosen for a second and then allowed to feel the rest.

The same rule works the other way. If he looks at you like he is checking you are still impressed, that is not heat. That is marking his own homework. You can break that by not playing along. Look back once, slow, then put your attention where the feeling is. Reward the presence. Do not feed the presentation.

There is a practical way to do this that does not require a personality transplant. Soften the face first. A lot of interview energy is just tension in the jaw. Unclench. Let the look be half lidded rather than wide. Wide reads as alarm or appraisal. Half lidded reads as I am in this. Occasional is the other half of the recipe. Three seconds is plenty. Then away. Then back if it still feels true. Nobody needs a continuous feed.

Laugh if it goes wrong. It will go wrong. Somebody will make the face. Somebody will catch themselves doing the plank and look briefly insane. The fix is not to pretend it did not happen. The fix is to treat it like a tripped cable, not a referendum on the relationship. Humour keeps the room human. Solemn correction is how you get more interview, not less.

Morning sex is a useful teacher because nobody has the energy for a production. The look then is usually better by accident. Messy hair. Bad breath diplomacy. Eyes that are only half open. That is closer to the real thing than the cinematic version people attempt after a night out. Presence often shows up when vanity is too tired to clock in.

If you are the one who cannot look, that is information, not a moral failing. Some of it is habit. Some of it is the old training that good girls do the act and do not appear to enjoy being caught enjoying it. Some of it is simply that looking makes the feeling sharper and sharp can be a lot. Try a smaller version. Look at his mouth instead of his eyes. Look at the point between his brows. Look for the length of one breath. The point is not to become a person who stares. The point is to stop treating visibility like a trap.

If he is the one who cannot look, do not turn it into a project on the spot. Nothing cools a body faster than being coached mid sentence. Notice it. File it. See whether the rest of him is still there. A man can be quiet with his eyes and loud with his hands. That can work. What does not work is the dead-eyed competence stare, or the total refusal to be witnessed while still wanting an audience for everything else.

The balance worth aiming for is this. Heat without surveillance. Attention without a clipboard. A look that has sex in it, not assessment.

Because the interview is always assessing something. Am I doing this right. Do I look like I know. Are you impressed. Are you close. Is this the face people make. All of that is noise. The body cannot take instruction from a quality control department and stay interested at the same time.

Presence is quieter. It does not ask for a grade. It just stays in the room. When he looks at you like that, even for a second, it changes the temperature. When you look at him like that, it does the same. Not because eyes are magic. Because looking, done properly, is a way of saying the obvious thing people keep trying to decorate. I am here. I see you. Keep going.

Let the mouth do the talking when talking is needed. Let the hands do the work they are actually good at. Give the face a smaller job. Soft. Filthy. Occasional.

That is the whole trick. Not more intensity. Better timing. A glance that arrives, does its dirty little piece of honesty, and then has the manners to leave before it turns into a meeting.

  • Use The First Twenty Minutes

The first twenty minutes are the part everybody treats like packaging.

Get it off. Get to it. As if the night is a parcel and ripping the paper is the boring bit before the actual present. Then people wonder why the sex feels like a workout that happened to include moaning. Pace from the door to the bed like it is a fire drill and the body never catches up. The lights stay ugly. The clothes come off in a heap that has no mood in it. Kissing becomes a formality. Hands go straight to the obvious places because the obvious places are where the plot is supposed to live.

Skip that stretch and what is left is cardio with better lighting.

That sounds harsh. It is also the most reliable pattern in the room. Want arrives in the body at different speeds. His can turn up like a light switch. Hers often turns up like a kettle. Not broken. Not difficult for sport. Just built to need heat, time, and a reason to believe the next bit is worth opening for. The first twenty minutes are how that reason gets built. Not with candles and a string quartet. With attention. With pace. With the simple decision not to sprint.

There is a serious version of this and a funny version, and they live in the same bed.

The serious version is that arousal is not only genital. It is nervous system, safety, context, the slow permission a body gives itself when it stops clocking the day. Work is still in the shoulders. The group chat is still in the head. The last remark he made in the kitchen is still sitting there like a crumb. You cannot yank a person out of all that and expect the rest of her to arrive on command. She might still go through with it. She might even look convincing. That is not the same as being in it.

The funny version is watching someone treat undressing like a pit stop. Shirt. Belt. Triumphant expression. Then a sort of hopeful lunge, as if removing fabric were the same job as creating a mood. It is not. Clothes coming off can be the sex. The pause at a button. The mouth at a collarbone while the rest of the outfit is still doing its job. The ridiculous half dressed state where one of you still has socks on and neither of you has decided to care yet. That mess is hotter than the clean nakedness people rush toward like a deadline.

Lights matter more than anyone wants to admit. Overhead bulbs are an act of aggression. They make skin look like evidence. A lamp in the corner, the hallway light left on and the door half closed, even the cheap warmth of a phone screen face down so it is not lighting anyone like a search warrant. You are not building a film set. You are giving the room a temperature. Bodies get braver when they do not feel inspected.

Pace is the other quiet decider. Fast can be filthy later. Fast at the start usually means nobody has arrived yet except the person who was ready in the taxi. If he is already at the main event in his head, he will skip the part that makes the main event good. That is not villainy every time. It is impatience wearing desire as a costume. The correction is not a lecture. It is staying in the early bit long enough that he has to live there too.

Kissing is the audit. If the kissing is sloppy, rushed, or treated like a ticket to be stamped on the way in, the rest tends to follow that energy. Slow it down on purpose. Less tongue as a personality. More of the kind of kissing that makes a person forget what time it is. A good rule: if the kissing would still work with most of the clothes on, you are in the right chapter. If the kissing only exists to justify the next base, you are already late.

Hands should wander before they clock in. Necks. The inside of an elbow. The place where a waistband sits and has not decided to move yet. Thighs through fabric. The boring geography that porn skips because porn is in a hurry and does not have to get anyone home afterwards. This is not romantic filler. This is how a body maps whether it is being used or met. Being met is what makes people loud later without having to perform it.

Talking in those twenty minutes is allowed to be ordinary. It does not need to come in hot with a script. A bit of filth, yes, if it is specific and not copied. Also the small human stuff. You smell good. Stay there. I have been thinking about this since the pub. The point is presence. Silence can be hot once the room is already charged. Silence at the start often just feels like two people trying to get a job done before they lose their nerve.

There is a myth that taking time means the sex will be gentle, worthy, and a bit bored. Rubbish. The first twenty minutes can be rude. Against a door. In the kitchen with a hand under a shirt and the kettle still warm. On the sofa with the telly on mute and nobody bothering to find the remote. Time is not the same thing as softness. Time is the difference between heat that builds and heat that gets assumed.

Another myth is that if both people are already turned on, the opening can be skipped. Sometimes that is true. Sometimes the night has been doing the work for hours and you walk through the door already halfway there. That is luck. Do not build a sex life on luck. Most nights are not a music video. Most nights start with tired mouths and a brain that is still doing emails. The first twenty minutes are how you convert an ordinary evening into a body that actually wants what is about to happen.

Logistics sound unsexy until they save the night. Lube on the side, not hunted for in a panic later. Phone face down. Bathroom trip before anyone is too far gone to be graceful about it. Hair thing off. Glasses somewhere that will not get punched across the room. These are not mood killers. These are the opposite. Nothing flattens desire like stopping mid flow to solve a problem that could have been handled while people were still laughing.

If the other person is rushing, do not meet him at his speed just to be easy. That is how a lot of women end up having sex that technically happened and emotionally did not. Stay where you are. Keep kissing. Keep the clothes in play. Put his hand back on your waist when it has gone touring too early. “Not yet” is not a rejection. It is direction. Men who want the night to be good can take a steer. Men who only want the night to be finished will sulk at the delay. That is useful information, even if it is not the information anyone hoped for.

There is a version of this advice that turns precious, all mindfulness and sacred feminine timing. That is not the point. The point is practical. Female orgasm, when it shows up at all, often needs a runway. Clitoral stimulation works better when the rest of the body has been invited. Penetration feels better when there is actual slip and actual want, not just goodwill and a grim determination to get on with it. The first twenty minutes are how you stop treating your own arousal like a plot twist that might happen if you are lucky.

Try treating undressing as a scene, not a chore. One item at a time. Mouth on newly bare skin before the next thing comes off. Leave something on longer than feels efficient. A bra strap halfway. A shirt open and not removed. Efficiency is for the office. The bedroom can afford waste.

Try starting further away from the bed than pride would like. Hallway. Kitchen counter. The bit of wall people always walk past and never use. Moving toward the bed becomes part of the heat instead of the place where heat is supposed to automatically exist.

Try a timer in your head, not on your phone. Twenty minutes of not aiming at the finish. If that feels long, that is the diagnosis. It should not feel long. It should feel like the night finally showing up.

The humour in all this is that people will spend money on toys, lighting, hotel rooms, and the sort of underwear that hurts, then still blow the cheapest part of the evening: the bit where two people remember they have more than one setting. They go from colleague brain to porn pace with nothing in between. Then they call the middle bit awkward. Of course it is awkward. They never stay there long enough for it to turn into something else.

Awkward is just the first coat of paint. Stay with it. Let the talking get stupider. Let the kissing get slower. Let a hand linger on a hip like it has nowhere else to be. The body is not a machine that boots up because someone sat on the bed. It is an animal that checks the room first.

When those twenty minutes are used properly, the rest of the night changes temperature. Oral does not feel like a favour. Pace holds because nobody is scrambling to catch up. Dirty talk sounds less like a school play because there is already something real to describe. Even a quickie later in the week gets better, because the body has a recent memory of being warmed up like it mattered.

When those twenty minutes are skipped, you can still have sex. People do it all the time. It can even look enthusiastic from a certain angle. Then it ends, and the room feels oddly unsatisfied, and someone puts the telly back on as if the evening needs covering over. That is the giveaway. The act happened. The arrival did not.

Use the opening. Not because sex should be a ceremony. Because most of the good stuff lives there, in the unhurried bit, before anyone has decided the point of the night is to get it over the line. Lights. Pace. Clothes coming off like there is time. Hands that have not clocked in yet. A mouth that is doing more than proving a point.

The finish is easy to find.

The start is where the night decides whether it was worth leaving the kettle.
